dating: 1650/60 provenance: Italy, Smoothbore, octagonal, 15 mm cal. barrel with rear sight and foresight, bearing a deep, barely-legible mark, another barely-legible mark at the base and 'I'; long lock with Roman-style flintlock and match-lock systems. Wooden full stock (several small damages and missing parts). Remains of an arsenal stamp under the barrel. The part under the butt and around the tang with engravings. Iron-tipped wooden ramrod. The military use of the double-fire, flintlock and match-lock system is attributed to Raimondo Montecuccoli (1609 - 1681) who in his 'Della Guerra col Turco in Ungheria' of 1670, title I, XVI - 4 (1) writes: 'I made muskets that have both a fire striker and a serpentine, so that one can be used on secret occasions, when the lit match can either be seen or smelt, or can be spoiled by the wet and windy weather, and the other one can be used when the first one is not available: the Turks use them too'. The work, written by Montecuccoli after the victory of Szent Gotthard on July, 31st 1664 (on the Raab river) over the Turkish army, is the summa of his military experiences since he joined the Emperor's army in 1629 at the age of 20.Literature: Raimondo Luraghi. Raimondo Montecuccoli's works, vol. II - Historic Office of the General Staff of the Army, 2nd edition – Rome, 2000. p. 270.Provenance: Palazzo Internazionale delle Aste ed Esposizioni S.p.A, Florence 22nd-28th September 1980, furniture sale from Pomaro Castle, property Commander Pier Francesco Calvi di Bergolo. The party was subject to heavy rifle and machine gun fire from a range of about three hundred yards, but Sapper Duffy with amazing coolness continued to work his mine detector. Later, his party working on the anti-tank ditch were forced into it by heavy fire, but Sapper Duffy remained working in an exposed position. Seeing that the tapes marking the edge of the gap had been badly cut by the shellfire, he ran back by himself from cover and repaired them so that the tanks could cross. When his platoon officer was wounded he ran back two hundred yards with another supper over ground swept by fire to bring up a stretcher and helped to carry him back to safety. Throughout the operation his complete disregard of danger and initiative were outstanding and a magnificent example to the remainder of his party.
A cased replica American Civil war confederate revolver with powder flask, and accessories, a cased "The Buffalo Bill Cody 1849 Revolver" Wyatt Earp revolver, 1911 (sledgehammer) 45 automatic US army pistol and other mostly Western era replica revolvers, some with corresponding display boards.Private estateAll of the revolvers are of the single-action type and they all cock and release on the trigger but some actions are a little stiff and probably need some oil: the colt automatic also cocks and releases as it should. One of the revolvers has damage to the faux ivory grip boards one side is completely missing and the other is in bits but the frame and action remain undamaged. One of the pistols shows verdigris on the barrel and top of the cylinder frame. The others are free from verdigris but some that are nickel plated are dull and could probably do with a slight polishThe boxed Buffalo Bill 1849 Revolver shows some blemishes to the swivel rammer body and a small patch on the underside of the barrel where the rammer lever seats when clipped up. I have tried to clean this off gently with a cloth but it remains. Please see the images supplied for clarification. The grips other than the one indicated as being damaged/partially missing are in good order. Some discolouration can be seen on the cylinder frames of a few of the revolvers but I think this is in an effort to simulate oil heat treatment that would have been present on the actual real weapons of the date. There are two boxed pistols that are visible in the images all others are unboxed
