Charles M. Jones (1923-), Salvation army band, signed, oil on canvas, 38.5 x 49.5cm.; 15.25 x 19.5in. * Charles Jones is a self-taught artist born in Pendlebury Manchester. He was a friend of L.S. Lowry whose work inspired him. He is a member of the Salford Art Club and the Exhibitors Group and has been Chairman of the Penton Painting Group for many years. He has always exhibited in the North West mainly at Salford Swinton and Eccles having several one man shows and also taking part in mixed exhibitions. His paintings are now in private collections in Australia; Israel; Germany and Holland as well as in Britain.

A group of five albums of photographs of India, Kashmir, Peshawar and the Khyber Pass, taken by Willis Grant whilst serving with the army, January 1945-March 1946, mostly taken with a Zeiss Tessar 3.5 Lens camera (one small album taken with a Brownie Box camera, each album carefully labelled and captioned in white ink, including street scenes, mountains, monuments, local natives etc.all small format (approx. 3 x 5 ins and sl. smaller), plus one similar album of views mainly in Germany, taken on a voyage in 1935, similarly captioned, all mounted in contemp. mock leather albums or similar, oblong 4to Willis Grant became Professor of Music at the University of Bristol, and was a noted organ scholar.
