Brown, Herefordshire Regiment and Indian Army, comprising Sam Browne Officer's belt with sword sling, leather pouch, newspaper cuttings, photographs including the regiment in uniform, together with a 7th Gurkha tunic and other non related uniforms Colonel George Brown joined the Herefordshire Regiment in 1909, served on the Western Front and was twice wounded from 1919-48. R.A.M.C.), edge bruise to first otherwise extremely fine with Bronze Memorial Plaque 'Lawrence Holloran' plus a contemporary photograph of the Roll of Honour for the 2/1 North Midland Ambulance T.F. 2518 Private Laurence Halloran, served with the Royal Army Medical Corps, died 21 March 1918, Halloran is commemorated in the H.A.C. Cemetery, Ecoust-St. Mein, France. (3)
*WWI. A well-documented group of three to Lieutenant D.G. Watson, M.I.D., Royal Army Medical Corps, died of wounds on 5 June 1915, 1914 Star (Lieut. D.G. Watson. R.A.M.C.) with copy Bar, British War and Victory Medals (Lieut. D.G. Watson.), extremely fine with a hard back book titled 'Waiting Night Sketches' by David Galloway Watson with a Memoir and a Personal Impression, Edinburgh 1916, 50 printed pages including an illustration of Watson, with copied research Lieutenant David Galloway Watson was born in West Calder, Midlothian in 1889, educated at the Royal High School Edinburgh and at Edinburgh University where he graduated in Medicine in 1913, becoming House Surgeon at the Royal Infirmary, Edinburgh. Commissioned Lieutenant with the Royal Army Medical Corps (attached to 2nd Bn, Bedfordshire Regiment) and served on the Western Front from 12 August 1914, he was mentioned in despatches on 30 November 1914, for gallant and distinguished conduct in the field at Neufchatel and Festubert he was wounded by fragments of high explosive shell on 17 May 1915, when bringing in wounded men from the trenches taken from the Germans at Festubert and died very suddenly at the Duchess of Westminster's Hospital at Le Touquet, Paris-Plage on 5 June 1915, Watson was the first officer buried in the British Cemetery at Etaples. Brown, Royal Army Medical Corps 1939-1945 Star, France & Germany Star, Defence and War Medals, Efficiency Decoration, E.II.R, with 'Territorial' suspension bar, reverse officially dated '1955', in Royal Mint case of issue with related dress miniature awards Sold on behalf of the family. Major Frederick Brown (1901-65), was born in Dublin, he served with the Royal Army Medical Corps during WWII in Europe and Madagascar. (5)

A group of items from the estate of Joseph Joylon Dean, comprising an unattributable WWII Military Cross group, Military Cross, G.VI.R., reverse officially dated '1945', 1939-1945 Star, Africa Star with 8th Army Bar, Italy Star, Defence and War Medals, 1953 Coronation Medal plus Officer's Territorial Decoration, G.VI.R., reverse engraved '1950' with G.VI.R., E.II.R. and Territorial award Bars, good very fine, mounted for wearing together with a Tropical jacket with three pips to epaulettes and Highland Division cloth insignia, brass buttons of the Royal Artillery and Ubique collar badges, the medal riband bar for 1939-1945 Star, Africa Star with 8th Army emblem, France & Germany Star, with Battle dress and Army great coat Provenance: From the estate of 7880890 Squadron Quarter Master Sergeant Joseph Joylon Dean Royal Artillery Corps, Royal Tank Regiment (1921-2010). Dean was awarded the British Empire Medal which was Gazetted in the 13 June 1946 Supplement. The group included with the lot was consigned from the same estate. Dean joined 51st Highland Division, he was injured twice in Sicily and then in Normandy where he was wounded in a mortar attack a day after he landed, the Guardian obituary quotes a 'he looked down at his bleeding chest and noticed he was wearing his shirt back to front', interestingly his father was Basil Dean the founder of Ealing Film Studios. *Cannon ball. A pair of presentation pieces made from cannon balls each with a silver plated flame finial and base with ring turn handle, one with circular cartouche engraved Ramadie [sic] 28-9-17, the other with engraved base 'Mesopotamia 1918, Presented to the Officer 6th Gurkhas by J.M.W.', 14cm high, together with two other cannon balls, including an 8cm high ball mounted on a mahogany stand Probably table lighters. The second Battle of Ramadi was fought in Mesopotamia on 28 / 29 September 1917, the battle was a victory for the British Army resulting in 3500 Turkish casualties and prisoners of war. (4)
*Early Airships. A set of five very large gelatine silver print photographs circa 1909, two captioned 'Army Airship Baby, 1909', another 'Army Airship Gamma, 1909-10', inscribed in ink verso with R.A.E. number, together with three related photographs, approx. 37 x 49cm The first airship was constructed and flown 30 miles from Crystal Palace to Ruislip in 1902, it carried an advertisement for 'baby food', following on from this a second airship was built called 'Baby' making her maiden flight in May 1909. However, she suffered from engine and stability problems, she was then rebuilt, enlarged and renamed 'Beta' and in 1910 'Gamma' was completed which was much bigger than 'Beta', 'Gamma' was handed to the Royal Navy at the outbreak of the Great War. *Luftwaffe. A WWII German Pilots or Observers Air Crew Beobachtungsuhr wristwatch (or B watch) made by LACO 22 Steine circa 1944, 5cm diameter black dial with arabic numerals, serial number D-06044, stamped on the inside of the rear cover with werk number 127 560b-1, 6044, the rear cover is stamped H6044 (matching to inside numbers) and faint ink stamp markings 24.4.44, the side of the watch is also engraved FL 23883, with part wrist strap and in full working order having been recently fully serviced These watches were Luftwaffe property. In WWII they were given to observers before the flight and had to be returned just after the landing. The watch also comes with provenance of how it was brought back from Germany in WWII by a British soldier Private James Alfred Bartlett (7655397) who was attached to 12th battalion Hampshire regiment part of the 43rd division Wessex. With copies of his army book and pictures. The watch was obtained from a German pilot who was a prisoner of war in allied hands and gifted the watch to Private Bartlett for tending his wounds etc near Glinstedt just prior to the Battle of Bremen. Purchased from the family. (1)

A group of 22 mostly pen and ink and watercolours, circa 1916, a mixture of cartoons and drawings, showing Germans, ruins and various military scenes, mostly dated and inscribed to printed postcard versos, plus 3 printed postcards (24)
*Chappell (Michael 'Mike', born 1935). British First World War Soldiers, 1995, a pair of watercolours, the first depicting a Corporal of Horse, Household Brigade on horseback, Colour Sergeant of the Scots Guards and a Welsh Guards Bugler with a marksmanship badge and two overseas service stripes, the second depicting a Lance Corporal (143rd Machine Gun Corps) and a Lewis Gunner (1st-9th Royal Scots), signed and dated to lower margins, 32 x 24 and 34 x 27 cm The second drawing was used in Mike Chappell's book, 'From the Somme 1916, Crucible of the British Army', 1995, page 69 - plate E; the first watercolour was possibly drawn for, but not used in the same publication. *Holiday (Captain Gilbert, 1879-1937, Royal Field Artillery). 18 pounders of The Royal Field Artillery in action on the Western Front, circa 1918, pastel on paper, signed lower left, 25 x 45cm, framed and glazed Holiday's early life was spent in St. John's Wood, London, and from his window he had his first contact with horses while watching the Royal Horse Artillery from his window. He was educated at Westminster and then studied at the R.A. Schools. He worked as an illustrator at The Graphic, The Tatler and the Illustrated London News. Holiday served as a gunner in the Royal Field Artillery on the Western Front during the First World War and painted many pictures for army messes. (1)

An album containing photographs of nursing staff, wards and convalescing soldiers, West Suffolk General Hospital, Bury St Edmunds, circa 1914-17, possibly compiled by one of the nurses, a total of 55 photographs of various sizes pasted in and including one photograph taken at First London General Hospital, contemporary cloth, some damp marking, oblong folio, together with 2 unrelated First World War photograph albums, one containing 43 snapshots taken in France by a German artilleryman, circa 1914-16, with photographs of transports, portraits and soldiers relaxing, the third modern ring binder album containing approximately 300 small-format photographs taken by a soldier serving with the Army Service Corps in Mesopotamia (3)

Vladimir Bogatkin (Russian, 1922-1971), A pair of lithographs, of the city of Tallinn, Estonia, 1953, signed in Cyrillic and dated "53" lower right, unframed. (2) Note: Vladimir Bogatkin was a notable Soviet war artist. He served in the Red Army and joined the Mitrofan Grekov Studio of War Artists in 1943. His wartime drawings were widely published in various periodicals.
