Kawano Kaoru (1916-1965) Japanese Woodblock print "Dancing Figure" (Taki). Kaoru Kawano was born in Otaru, Hokkaido in 1916, and studied at Kawabata art school in 1934. Because his earlier works showed such great promise, they were displayed at the Nihon Hanga Kyokai Exhibition (Japan Print Society) in 1944. He interrupted his print-making activities to join the army, but later was unfortunate to become a prisoner of war in Siberia. In 1949 he resumed exhibiting with Nihon Hanga Kyokai, and subsequently with Kokugakai in 1952. He moved to Tokyo in 1958, and participated in international competitions and solo exhibitions in New York, Seattle, Chicago, and elsewhere. His works are characterized by highly textured abstract representations of children. Overall size: 28 3/4 x 15 3/4 in. Sight size: 22 x 9 1/4 in.
Charles Levier (1920-2003) American, Oil on canvas. Depicting a bouquet of flowers on a beach with buildings in the background. Levier is known for landscape, still life and figure paintings. Born in 1920 of a French father and American mother in Corsica. He held a fascination with color and form that led him at age 17 to the Ecole Nationale Supieure des Arts Decoratifs for private studies. Levier served in WWII in the French Army in North Africa. Titled 'Bouquet at Waters Eve'. Size: 30 1/4 x 22 1/4 in.
Titled, "Cottage in Palm Beach", Impressionist painting of Palm Beach, Florida - Feb. 10 1978, oil on Masonite, dated and signed: 1979 Wayne Morrell. Wayne Morrell was born in New Jersey and as a young child had an affinity for drawing. As a result, he attended the Philadelphia School of Industrial Arts studied draftsmanship and commercial art. Morrell worked as a commercial artist and served in the United States Army during the Korean War. His artwork from this time focused primarily on murals. He began painting in1953 with great success and subsequently left his career as a commercial designer to devote his energy full time to the fine arts. Drawing from personal life and everyday surroundings gave Morrell greater depth and understanding of his home in New England and these works are what he is best known for. Morrell was a member of the celebrated Rockport artist colony and one of a premier group of American artists who continue the tradition of great landscape masters such as Winslow Homer, Edward Redfield, and George Inness.
