Very Rare WW2 4th Independent Company Army Commando Formation Sign, in embroidered cloth being the standard design 55th Division formation sign with embroidered 4 to the lower centre section. The insignia shows evidence of being removed from a uniform. ** This item was given to Colin Churchill during WW2 by an army commando who was billeted in his family home in Dorchester.

Victorian Mess Uniform Possibly Indian Army, of red scarlet cloth with black stand up collar and cuffs. Collar and cuffs decorated with twist cord. To the collar are a pair of pioneer type crossed axes. Brass ball button front with hidden clip fasteners. To the breast are medal ribbons for the Indian General Service medal and Afghanistan campaign medal. Complete with blue/black mess waistcoat with gilt buttons and a pair of officers dress trousers with gilt braid and central crimson stripe to the legs. Some scattered moth damage. (3 items)

WW1 and WW2 medal ribbons to the breast. Accompanied by two 1949 pattern battle dress blouses with insignia for the Monmouthshire Regiment and Royal Signals. § Algernon Cecil Newton, RA (British, 1880-1968) River Landscape signed and inscribed as a Christmas card for 1939 "with best wishes for Xmas and the New Year from Algernon and Janette Newton / December 1939" oil or gouache on black card 7 x 9cm (3 x 4in) Algernon Newton was one of the most interesting and compellingly original English artists of the neo-Romantic 20th century British painters Newton was born in 1880 into the family that made Windsor and Newton paints, he left Clare College, Cambridge after two years without taking a degree to study art in London at Frank Calderon's School of Animal Painting and the London School of Art, Kensington. Newton served in the First World War and was invalided out of the Army in 1916. During the Thirties, Newton became a pacifist, remembering the trauma of war and he moved to the country, painting dark sylvan scenes often with a sense of dread in the skies, thundery landscapes and forbidding trees. Algernon Newton exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1903; A.R.A. 1936; R.A. 1943 and his first one-man show was held at the Leicester Galleries in 1931. Unframed and fine.

John records 'the great wailing on the platforms' as women saw their menfolk off. Browning to the background and around the mount - browning around the signature.
