Wilson (Robert F.) and B. K. Battersby. The British Colour Council Dictionary of Colours for Interior Decoration, 3 vol., first edition, foreword by John P. Glass, 21 fold-out sheets of colour swatches, library stamps, ink notations and remnants of stickers, lacking black card viewing strips (pocket to front pastedowns), original burgundy calf, spines lightly toned, lightly worn, presentation slip case, original burgundy calf, one or two small tears, rubbed, 4to, 1949.⁂ First edition of a scarce colour sample book, produced by the British Colour Council aiming to standardise colours across the interior decoration trade. The Dictionary became invaluable to decorators, who could use their copy to specify to a manufacturer exactly which colour they wished to achieve, meaning few survive due to their extensive use as working tools. In this first edition several colours appear without pile fabric samples; these were considered incompatible with the dyeing process, or susceptible to quick fading.
