Group comprising: a hallmarked silver two-handled prize cup with lid, affixed to black base, cup inscribed 'THE FRANK CLARK MUNNS DAHLIA / MEMORIAL CUP / Presented to the / EASTWOOD AND DISTRICT / HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY' in five lines to the front and a list of eight annual winners from 1967 to 1974, lid and cup hallmarked for London with date letter lower case gothic 'k' (for 1925) and makers mark 'B&F LTD'; with a silver plated two-handled prize cup, affixed to black base, cup inscribed ' THE / W F / MARSHALL / CUP / FOR / SWEET / PEAS' in seven lines to the front with list of six annual winners from 1958 to 1963 to rear, the base with a later applied silver band engraved with the names of thirteen further winners for the period 1965 to 1983. 1.3 kg total, 25-28cm (10 - 11). Property of an Essex collector; acquired 2016. Eastwood is a small town in south Essex, located a few miles west of Southend-on-Sea; the use of a silver cup from a much earlier era, as here, is quite frequently seen. [2, No Reserve]. Fine condition.

dating: circa 1700 provenance: Persia, Curved, single-and false-edged blade, in damask, with double groove, first part of the right side bears two cartouches with inscriptions in Arabic and remains of gilding, above the golden chivalry coat-of-arms with helmet and armed arm of scimitar over the circle that includes three crosses, letters 'S L P K' in the angles, all in gold; on the other side the Emperor Ferdinand I of Hapsburg motto 'Pereat Mundus et fiat Justitia' (Let justice be done, though the world perish) in gold and among two symbols (most likely of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulcher of Jerusalem), golden floral decorations above the back. Elegant, iron hilt with cross-shaped quillon and angled pommel, completely engraved with animals and floral motifs with golden frames. Wooden scabbard covered with ray skin with iron mounts engraved and gilded en suite. Two suspension rings. length 91 cm.
