Schon in der Frühzeit beschäftigt sich Spitzweg mit dem unmittelbaren Ausschnitt in der Natur, die er auf seinen Wanderungen in den bayerischen Bergen festhält. 1835 trifft er in Mittenwald auf Eduard von Schleich d. Ä., mit dem er anschließend auf zahlreiche malerische Wanderschaften im Inntal, im Ettaler Gebiet und bei Garmisch sowie im Salzburger Land geht. In ihren Malkästen hatten die beiden feste Papierbögen, Kartons und „kleine Bretterl“ dabei, die einfach am Deckel befestigt werden konnte und schnell als Malgrund dienten. Spitzweg fertigt auf allen seinen Reisen und Wanderungen Zeichnungen und Ölstudien an, die er dann als motivisches und farbliches Repertoire bei der Komposition seiner Gemälde heranzieht. Neben den bekannten humoristischen Genreszenen schafft Spitzweg eine Vielzahl an wunderbaren Landschaften, die bei seinen Reisen im kleinen Format entstehen. Dazu nutzt er häufig den Deckel seiner Zigarrenkisten – Spitzweg war leidenschaftlicher Raucher kubanischer Habaneros. Aus den kleinen Formaten ergibt sich ein reizvolles Wechselspiel zwischen dem konzentrierten Motiv und dem stark geweiteten, langgestreckten Panoramablick. Wenig mehr als ein Farbeindruck von Spitzwegs bevorzugter Palette mit dem Coelinblau, dem hellem, frischen Grün und den rot-weißen Tupfen des typischen Gewandes der Sennerin mit dem sie bei Spitzweg immer ausgestattet ist, zeigt die kleine Landschaft wie locker und treffend er mit Farbe und Licht Regie führt. Bisweilen sind seine Gemälde anhand von Eintragungen im Skizzenbuch verortbar, in anderen Fällen formuliert sich in ihnen ein Typus. Die links angeschnittene Alm mit der nach oben gerichteten Perspektive findet im Gemälde „Der Urlauber“ (Sammlung Schäfer, Schweinfurt) erneut Verwendung – ein Eindruck, den Spitzweg beim Erreichen der Alm nach langer Wanderung nur zu gut kennen mochte. Von biomorpher Form zu kubischen Elementen Hans Steinbrenner (1928–2008) verdingt sich in den Nachkriegsjahren bei den US-Streitkräften als Plakatmaler und Grafiker. Von 1946 bis 1949 studiert er an der damaligen Werkkunstschule Offenbach am Main (heute Hochschule für Gestaltung). 1949 bis 1952 besucht er die Städelschule in Frankfurt am Main und wird dort Meisterschüler von Hans Mettel (1903–1966), im Anschluss wechselt er von 1952 bis 1954 ebenfalls als Meisterschüler bei Toni Stadler (1888–1982) an die Akademie der Bildenden Künste in München. Während Hans Steinbrenner sich in seinem Frühwerk noch an seinen Lehrern in Frankfurt und München orientiert, wird ihn die Begegnung mit den Bildhauern Constantin Brâncusi (1876–1957) und Henri Laurens (1885–1954) nachhaltig prägen. Auch der Einfluss von Hans Arp (1886–1966) ist sowohl in seinen kubisch-abstrakten Quaderskulpturen als auch in seinen charakteristischen, überlebensgroßen biomorphen Figuren vor allem aus Holz nachfühlbar, wie beispielsweise bei unserer überlebensgroßen Arbeit mit dem Titel 'Große Vegetative'. Ab den späteren 1960er Jahre schließlich findet Steinbrenner zu einer plastischen Sprache, die, wie hier an zwei Beispielen anschaulich, auf kubische Elemente zurückgreift und menschliche Proportionen aufnimmt. Von da an nennt der Künstler seine Skulpturen ohne weitere namentliche Unterscheidung 'Figur'. Und so verfährt der Bildhauer auch mit dieser zunächst aus einem Holzstamm geschlagenen und dann in Bronze gegossenen Stele. Mit zeichnerischer Präzision reduziert er die Anschauung des menschlichen Körpers zu streng geometrischen, aufeinander gestapelten Formen, deren einzelne Elemente nicht symmetrisch angeordnet, sondern geringfügig gegeneinander verschoben sind. Die rhythmisierte Vertikale verleiht der Skulptur jeweils eine lebendig wirkende Silhouette und auch die Bewegtheit der Oberflächen steht in einem spannungsreichen Kontrast zur strengen Materialität, wie bei der rund 200 Zentimeter hohen 'Stele' aus Stein aus dem Jahr 1985. From biomorphic forms to cubic elements In the post-war years, Hans Steinbrenner (1928-2008) worked as a poster painter and graphic designer for the US army. From 1946 to 1949, he studied at the former Werkkunstschule Offenbach am Main. From 1949 to 1952, he attended the Städelschule in Frankfurt am Main, where he joined the master class of Hans Mettel (1903-1966), before he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich in the class of Toni Stadler (1888-1982) from 1952 to 1954. While Hans Steinbrenner's early work still shóws the influence of his teachers in Frankfurt and Munich, his encounters with the sculptors Constantin Brâncusi (1876-1957) and Henri Laurens (1885-1954) would have a lasting impact on him. The influence of Hans Arp (1886-1966) can also be observed in his cubic-abstract sculptures, as well as in his characteristic, oversized biomorphic figures, mainly made of wood, such as our huge work entitled 'Große Vegetative'. From the late 1960s, Steinbrenner finally attained a visual language that, as our two works demonstrate, draws on cubic elements and incorporates human proportions. Henceforth, the artist called his sculptures 'figures' without further distinguishing them by names. And this is also how the sculptor proceeded with this stele, which he first hewed from a wooden trunk and then cast in bronze. With graphic precision, he reduced the human body to strictly geometric, stacked forms, the individual elements of which are not arranged symmetrically, but slightly offset from one another. The rhythmic vertical lines lend the sculpture a lively silhouette and the dynamic surfaces also provide a fascinating contrast to the rigid materiality, as in the approximately 200 centimeter high stone 'Stele' from 1985. An Art Deco style diamond solitaire ring, with an estimated 1.3 carat central round brilliant cut stone. The stepped shoulders are set with a further six eight cut diamonds. Set into hallmarked 950 platinum. Marked for Berker Brothers Ltd. Size R1/2. Gross weight approximately 5.89 grams. Condition report: In overall good condition with all stones free from damage and all settings secure. Central stone estimated colour J-K, with a slight greyish tint; clarity Si2-I1.

A collection of antique and vintage jewellery. Comprising of two Edwardian pendants, an ivy and bell bar brooch and a cubic zirconia and sapphire ring. The pendants are both circular and floral design, one set with paste, the other with amethyst and seed pearl. The sapphire and CZ ring is a size K. All items test as 9ct gold.
