A World War Two gold Caterpillar badge awarded to Sergeant William Allan Poulton, inset with ruby stones to the eyes and engraved under the pin to the reverse with an identical badge in bronze to the same, in original presentation box by the Irving Air Chute of GT. Britain LTD, also a collection of framed and loose fragments of the Halifax JD-244 MH-K that crashed on June 22nd 1943 at De Most, Balen, the collection with a full history of the action with photocopies of letters, CD ROMS and family photographs of the visit to the crash site in 2010. NB - Sgt W. A Poulton was a bomb aimer with RAF 51 squadron. On the 21st/22nd June 1943 Poulton flew as a spare bomb aimer in Halifax JD244 MH-K, the target that night was Krefeld in the Ruhr. After dropping its bombs at 17,000ft the aircraft was hit under the port wing by flak. Estimating they would not make the coast they turned towards France and Belgium with the order to bale out, which they did successfully. Once on the ground Poulton met up with the rear gunner who was badly injured and they changed into civilian clothes and spent nights in the woods. After spending a considerable amount of time on the run Sgt Poulton was questioned for information and, constantly remained silent, sent to the Gestapo HQ and arrested. PLEASE VIEW CONDITION REPORT
