Alan certainly wore the Fob Watch and my mother recalled him wearing it during several of her visits when they had dinner together. The gold box was a gift to Maugham and was passed to Alan on Maugham's death. My mother kept the box by her at all times in her handbag. The crest is that of Maugham.

A late 19c Coalport loving cup having on one side the entwined initials M and K within a border of forget-me-nots and wild roses and on the other side with a shipwreck, the ship dashed against rugged cliffs upon which are ruined towers and a lone survivor clings to a spar in stormy seas. The cup has entwined twig handles with leafy terminals and gilt line and acanthus borders,4.5in h.
