Silurian Period, 443-416 million years BP. A large cut and polished piece of black limestone in the shape of a shallow dish with numerous well preserved white Orthonoceras sp. nautiloid shells of varying size on both sides; label to base reading: 'Nautiloid ORTHONOCERAS Silurian Atlas Mts Morocco'. See Sweet, Walter C. (1964), Nautiloidea - Orthocerida, in 'Treatise on Invertebrate Paleontology, Part K. Mollusca 3', Geological Society of America, and University of Kansas Press, New York, New York and Lawrence, Kansas. 1.49 kg, 31cm (12"). Property of a Welsh fossil collector; acquired on the UK art market. Very fine condition. [No Reserve]
The Who. The BUECHE GIROD watch given by Keith Moon to his personal assistant Peter "Dougal" Butler as a "thank-you" for saving his life. The timely actions of his PA resulted in Keith Moon being persuaded to travel with Peter to Weybridge hospital where Moon stayed from 5th - 9th July 1972 for rehabilitation and help with his drink problem. The hospital bill addressed to Keith Moon dated 1st August 1972 is included in this lot. This Hallmarked 9ct Gold watch marked "Bueche Girod" on the face has a bark finish, was made in Switzerland and has the initials "RCK" for the designer Roy King, together with the hallmark on the bracelet clasp. It measures 7.5 inches long. Manual wind, not working. Gorss weight 57.5grams. (5) PROVENANCE - This lot includes the watch and a signed letter from Peter "Dougal" Butler confirming the provenance and authenticity. Also included in the lot is the bill from the Hospital to K. Moon Esq. of Tara House, St Annes Hill, Chertsey dated 1st August 1972 for the four day stay in private ward accommodation at Weybridge hospital, Surrey.

Lawes (Henry). The Second Book of Ayres, and Dialogues, for One, Two, and Three Voyces, printed by T[homas] H[arper] for Jo[hn] Playford, 1655, a-b2, A-I2, LL2, LLL2, K-N2, title page supplied in facsimile a2 a cancel (with differing woodcut head-piece from the Ornament in the King's College Cambridge copy), with professional repair to extreme inner margin, large woodcut initial to a2, woodcut initial to each song, B1 substantially re-margined, without loss of text, A2 with repairs to lower corner with some letters replaced in facsimile, several other minor repairs to B1, B2 and other leaves, final leaf (N2) repaired to lower outer corner with some letterpress supplied in facsimile, publisher's list at foot of final leaf verso, occasional near-contemporary musical additions in brown ink, bookplate of Joseph Crawhall, Morpeth, engraved portrait of Edward Wenman Martin and pencil signature of Richard Border to front pastedown, and small library bookplate of Christopher Rowe to front endpaper modern antique-style quarter speckled calf gilt (endpapers replaced), folio Henry Lawes (1596-1662), the brother of William Lawes, was greatly admired in his own time as a prolific English songwriter of the Cavalier period. He became a Gentleman of the Chapel Royal in 1626, and a member of the King's Musick in 1631. He published three books of Ayres and Dialogues in 1653, 1655 and 1658. He also wrote the music for Milton's masque Comus, at the poet's request, first performed at Ludlow Castle on September 29, 1634. (1)
