Er stand Rembrandt nahe, denn er war ein Verwandter Saskias und hatte bei deren Verlobung amtiert. Später war er auch bei der Taufe der Kinder Saskias und Rembrandts beteiligt. Rembrandt porträtierte ihn zweimal, neben dem Porträt von 1633 entstand 1646 posthum ein Gedenkbild.Die frühere Darstellung zeigt den Geistlichen am Tisch vor einem geöffneten Buch, wahrscheinlich der Bibel. Er wendet sich dem Betrachter zu. Seine Augen sind jedoch nach unten gerichtet, als denke er über eine gerade gelesene Passage nach. KATASTROFARussian Poster (19" x 32")Very Fine+ on Linen Budapest Filmstúdio, 1960This is a Russian poster for a Hungarian film titled Crime at Dawn or Assassination Attempt, and the design is quite striking. It has been professionally linen-backed, with expert touch-ups along the folds and minor touch-ups on the "K" in the film's title, as well as a small tear on the lower edge. The poster is hand-numbered "No.1337" in pencil in the lower left corner.Crime at Dawn or Assassination Attempt (Hungarian: Merenylet) is a 1960 Hungarian drama directed by Zoltan Varkonyi and starring Lajos Basti, Iren Psota and Antal Pager. Filmed at the Hunnia Studios in Budapest, the sets were designed by the art director, Istvan Basthy.This lot will be auctioned on Friday, September 13th. Attributed to Henry Victor Milner, (1864-1942) reputedly after a design by Temple Moore (1856-1920) for the Church of St. Bartholomew, Parish of Bowling, Bradford, West Yorkshire - Late Victorian gothic revival painted ecclesiastical reredos panel, depicting Christ enthroned, holding orb and cross in left hand, right hand raised in blessing, angel supporters beneath holding a banner - 'We praise Thee, We worship Thee, We glorify Thee', 181cm x 81.5cm, beneath a separate panel applied with three gilt crocketed cusped arches, 72cm high x 81cm wide, overall 253cm high Typewritten note verso states:"Bradford - St. Bartholomew Bowling Recently I have discovered from "Temple Moore - an architect of the Late Gothic Revival" by Geoffrey K. Brandwood that the reredos of which you have sections in the crypt dates from 1886. It was designed by this very great architect (1856-1920), was painted by the equally distinguished artist H. Victor Milner and made and carved by James Elwell & Son of Beverley (the earlier attributions were apparently incorrect). The reredos and rood cost £210!"

A FINE VIENNESE LACQUERED BRASS CAMPAIGN THEODOLITE CHR. AND G. STARKE, VIENNA, MID 19th CENTURYThe single short draw focusing telescope inscribed K. K. polytechn. Institut in Wien. Chr. & G. Starke to one side held within oxidised brass frame supporting a spirit level to top and with micrometer screw elevation adjustment to eyepiece end, fitted via a rotating joint onto a horizontal degree circle with fine silver scale and Vernier applied to an arm screwed to the telescope frame, the base with ball and socket sleeve joint for mounting on a tripod, in unusual tooled and textured paper covered 'admiral's hat' shaped carrying case finished to resemble leather and with moulded fabric lined interior incorporating a small selection of accessories; with a wooden tripod, 19th century, incorporating oxidised brass knuckles and threaded instrument mounting socket, (2).The case 12cm (4.75ins) high, case 18.5cm (7.25ins) wide; 11.5cm (4.5ins) deep; the tripod 84cm (33ins) long closed. The current lot was presumably made by Georg Christoph Starke (1794-1865) in partnership with his son, Gustave (1832-1917) suggesting that it was made in around 1850.
