CA. 800 AD Interesting Medieval period silver ring; a round hoop with applied oval bezel; depicting a stylized path going through forests/mountains. It is believed such rings were used/given to travellers and pilgrims in the Medieval period as talismans for protection against evil and misfortune. Rare Ancient Roman gold ring; a well-preserved hoop forming an elliptical bezel; beautifully carved green intaglio stone inserted in the middle; depicting a standing stag near a tree; the standing stag is often associated with the god Satyr; it was later on used in Christianity as the prototype of depicting the Devil. WW1 British Medal Group comprising of WW1 1914-15 Star, War Medal 1914-18 and Victory Medal and a cased Military Cross awarded to Lt Arthur Anderton, RFA. All complete with original ribbons. The MC is not engraved. This group comes complete with family history research and is new to the market. Lt Anderton won his MC in Sept 1918 and his citation reads "For conspicuous gallantry and devoition to duty. This officer was left behind in charge of the ammuntion dump when the section evacuated its lines. All the morning the area was subjected to intense bombardment and at midday the dump was set on fire. He immediately set to work and got it extinguised. Half and hour later it was again set on fire and he was blown into a ditch by a shell explosion. In spite of his efforts the fire got such a hold that the dump finally blew up". Post war Lt Anderton served in Ireland with the Auxilary Division of the Royal Irish Constabulary ("Black and Tans") and was wounded by a grenade attack on K Coy at Dillons Cross in 1920.

Along with a set of miniature medals covering his WW1 & WW2 Awards. All mounted in a frame. Along with a hallmarked silver cigarette case given to him by his wife, which stopped a bullet and is dented as a result.
