India – M K Gandhi – father of the Indian nation – Nehru & Gandhi – autograph The Discovery of India by Jawaharlal Nehru^ Calcutta 1946 first edition^ signed to inside cover by Nehru and dated in his hand April 1946^ with two publisher compliment slips^ generally good condition^ with dj present^ together with ‘Mathatma Gandhi^ correspondence with the Government 1944-47 edited by Pyarelal Ahmedabad 1959^ 1st edition^ signed to inside cover ‘Mr F Burrows with Regards Pyarelal’. Both books are from the library of Sir Frederick Burrows^ the last British Governor of Bengal (1946-7). Burrows did not have the typical background of an Indian Governor being a trade’s unionist from Ross on Wye^ Herefordshire^ who became President of the National Union of Railwaymen. However^ he was one of the most effective of the long series of British Indian Governors^ and he played a key role in persuading Gandhi to stay in Calcutta in August 1947^ thereby preventing the much feared communal violence witness in the Punjab from erupting in Bengal. The volume of correspondence includes letters between Gandhi and Burrows.

Les bases ont été égalisées, ce qui a entraîné une légère perte de matière. À l`état brut, non soclées, elles sont en très bon état et possèdent une forte valeur décorative. On joint les CIC (certificats intra-communautaires) n° FR 13075159967 et 968-K délivrés par la DRIEE Île de France le 08/07/2013.

HAUT. 13,5 cm - LARG. 11,2 cm Ce modèle de la Vierge à l`Enfant est aussi appelé "la Portaïtissa". La joue droite de Marie a une légère blessure rouge. D`après la tradition, à l`époque Iconoclaste, l`icône a été profanée par un soldat qui lui a donné un coup de sabre. Le bois a saigné et l`image, jetée à la mer, est arrivée miraculeusement au Mont Athos. Le revêtement en argent et vermeil est joliment travaillé. On remarque, au bas de l`oklad, les poinçons dans les plis du voile et la petite plaquette en cyrillique où le nom Iverskaîa est écrit.
