General surface wear, scratches, scuffs and chips/nicks to case and loose glass. The winder is not signed and may be replaced. The movement currently runs when wound but is untested for working order, which cannot be guaranteed. Surface wear to later strap. Length of case (shoulder to shoulder) 3.7cm.

Diamond dimensions approximately 6.7mm diameter x 4.08mm depth. Shoulder set diamonds are well matched and fairly bright, total weight approximately 0.10ct. The ring mount has general surface wear with dark solder joins/repairs and associated firestaining at junctions within the setting and shoulders. A diamond and gem set spray brooch, modelled as a cluster of oval chatoyant cabochons centred with two round brilliant-cut diamonds, enclosed by a tapered ribbon of graduated baguette-cut diamonds and further brilliants, white precious metal mounted, signed TRIO and stamped '18K', total diamond weight approximately 0.95ct, length 4cmDiamonds are well matched, bright and lively, with estimated VS1 to SI2 clarity and H to K colour, assessed mounted, and graduate from approximately 0.08ct to 0.005ct in size. The chatoyant cabochons are possibly chrysoberyl cat's eye stones, but are untested as such. Most of the cabochons contain inclusions such as fractures, fissures and small minerals and all have surface wear, scuffs and nicks/small chips. The largest cabochon measures approximately 10.5mm length x 6.5mm width x 5.2mm depth. The brooch mount appears to be relatively modern with light surface wear and has dark solder joins/repairs at some junctions within the frame. The brooch pin is a little mis-shapen but functioning and the safety catch is functioning. Metal standard is untested. Gross weight approx. 14gm.

A pair of 'day and night' diamond flowerhead earrings, each centred with a cushion-shaped old-cut diamond stud in pinched collet setting, with post and butterfly fittings, accompanied by a pair of detachable flowerhead panels with graduated old and lasque-cut diamond set petals, white precious metal mounted, principal old-cut diamond weights approximately 0.75ct and 0.65ct respectively, total weight of old-cut diamonds approximately 1.80ct, length 2.15cmThe principal diamonds are of slightly different sizes but lively and fairly bright, both with a yellowish tint and surface-reaching fractures, estimated K to M colour and P1 clarity, assessed mounted. The principal diamonds measure approximately 5.5mm length x 5.2mm width and 5.8mm length x 5.6mm width respectively (depth of each stone unknown due to settings). Bordering diamonds have slightly variable colour and clarity, some stones with fractures/small chips, but give an overall lively appearance. It is likely that the earrings are later adapted as each panel has a small loop fitting to the reverse and the post/butterfly fittings are a later addition. The mounts have general surface wear, with patchy thinning to the edges of the settings. Some of the small closed-back settings have pinpoint-sized holes to the back. Metal standard is untested. Gross weight approixmately 8.3gm.

A diamond and vari gem-set cluster brooch, centred with an oval cabochon sapphire in claw setting, within a tiered border of single-cut diamonds and alternating circular mixed-cut rubies and emeralds, two colour precious metal mounted, total diamond weight approximately 0.65ct, length 2.95cmThe sapphire has a dark steely-blue hue and a near opaque appearance, containing feather, fissure and mineral inclusions, with a chip to the centre and surface-reaching fractures. Sapphire dimensions approximately 9.6mm length x 8mm width x 3.5mm depth. Diamonds are slightly graduated, varying from approximately 0.015ct to 0.03ct each, with a bright appearance, occasional stones with small nicks/chips. Estimated VS1 to SI2 clarity and H to K colour, assessed mounted. Emeralds and rubies are well matched, most containing fissures, feathers and mineral inclusions, some stones with surface-reaching fractures. All have surface wear, with occasional nicks/small chips, and measure approximately 3mm to 3.5mm diameter each. The brooch mount has surface wear and patchy tarnishing, the pin is mis-shapen but functioning. Metal standard is untested. Depth of setting approximately 1.35cm. Gross weight approximately 10gm.

Malcolm commanded the naval squadron at St Helena during the early part of Napoleon's captivity, and they both had a friendly relationship. The signature of W. K. Elphinstone to the front blank is possibly that of William George Keith Elphinstone (1782-1842) who was Lt. Col. of the 33rd Foot at Waterloo, and related to Malcolm through the latter's marriage.
