Béla Kádár, Hungarian 1877-1956 - Figures by the coast; ink on paper, signed lower left 'Kádár Béla', 19.8 x 25.7 cm (ARR) Provenance: private collection and thence by descent Note: heavily influenced by Hungarian folklore, Kádár became a distinctive voice in Modernist art, exhibiting at the celebrated Der Strum Gallery in Berlin in the 1920s, alongside Oscar Kokoschka, Paul Klee and fellow Jewish artist Marc Chagall. He would also be included as part of a pioneering show at the Brooklyn Museum, New York, in 1928, selected by Man Ray and Duchamp.
Basil Rákóczi, British/French 1908-1979 - L’Homme Primitif (with 'Figures in a jungle' on the reverse), 1949; oil on canvas, signed upper left 'Rakoczi' and signed, dated, titled and numbered on the reverse, 60.3 x 40.9 cm (unframed) Provenance: the Estate of the Artist Note: Rákóczi founded the Modernist group, The White Stag Group, along with his partner, Kenneth Hall. Influenced by Surrealism and founded in London, they moved to Ireland in 1940. Gaining Irish members including Nano Reid and Norah McGuiness, their work focusing on psychological states and esoteric myth and symbols. Instrumental to Hall's artistic career and his first solo exhibition was the dealer Lucy Wertheim. Wertheim also promoted Barbara Hepworth, Christopher Wood, Frances Hodgkins and Henry Moore. An exhibition of her legacy 'A Life in Art & Reuniting the Twenties Group' has recently been on display at Towner Eastbourne, UK, including works by both Hall and Rákóczi.

He fled to London in 1938 where he remain until his death in 1973. He exhibited with Alex Reid and Lefevre (1943), Leceister Galleries (1948, and Waddington Galleries (1958).
WW2 Dambusters An official 617 Squadron Photograph taken shortly after the Dams Raid by Bassano, the court photographers, this photograph was reproduced in 2003 to commemorate the 60th Anniversary of the Dams Raid 16, 17th May 1943, number 285 , 500 supplied with Certificate of Authenticity and signed by 10 veterans of the historic Dams Raid. A large number of this print issue do not have Les Munro and only have nine signatures (believe he became ill and could not complete the full signing). The print has been professionally framed and overall measures approximately 28.25 inch x 17 inch (72cm x 43cm) has been kept out of the light (no fading), is in very good condition and a poignant reminder of the bravery of the men of 617 Squadron RAF. Please note it was really hard to photograph this lot as the light was reflecting off of the glass. The print is near perfect condition, just really hard to photograph without reflection or shadow! WW2 U Boat A black and white photograph signed by U Boat Commander K F Merten (1905 1993) dated 1968, measuring approx 6 x 4 inch (10 x 15cm), the picture is of the crew in boats on way out to U 68. Karl Friedrich Merten commanded the U Boat U 68 in Nazi Germany's Kriegsmarine during WW2. Merten was credited with the sinking of 27 ships for a total of 170,151 gross register tons (GRT) of Allied shipping. The photograph is in very good condition (see photographs)Good condition.
