A fine and impressive platinum and diamond 3 stone ring, the central, emerald cut diamond weighing approximately 5.21ct and held in a 4 pronged setting between baguette cut diamond mounted shoulders, ring size S. Accompanied by a report from the World Gemological Institute grading the central diamond K VVS2.
An impressive pair of diamond earstuds, each set with an old brilliant cut diamond weighing approximately 4.0ct (total approx. 8.0ct) and held in an 8 pronged crown setting. With post backs for pierced ears. Accompanied by a report from the World Gemological Institute grading both diamonds K-L and VS2-SI1.
A diamond solitaire ring, the round cut diamond weighing approximately 1ct and set in a 9ct yellow gold band. Ring size M. * Condition: The diamond has no chips or damage. Overall SI1, colour J-K. Very little fluorescence under UV. The stone has a small patch of cavity line inclusions near the girdle, which show on the surface and can be felt with a fingernail. There is a fine feather inclusion to the side and a small patch of mineral inclusions including tiny carbon spots in the same place. There is also a patch of cloud inclusions around one claw.
A Victorian 1834 pattern 42nd Goorkha Light Infantry Officers sword by E Thurkle, London: the straight single edge blade with acid etched decoration, crown and 'VR' cipher, unicorn armorial over the initials 'A.K.A' , makers mark to shoulder as per title, pierced steel three bar guard with Infantry crest, wire bound fish skin grip, together in a steel scabbard with double suspension loops, blade length 83.5cm.*Notes- Vendor research indicates that this sword was made for A K Abbott who served most of his army career with the 42nd Goorkha Light Infantry.
Early 20th Century Children's Pictorial Transport Volumes An interesting selection of mainly quarto-size volumes in pictorial boards, all from the first half of the 20th Century, the covers generally a bit rubbed on the corners and spines, but mostly quite clean internally, and with very attractive colour illustrations. The titles comprise: A Book of Many Motors, A Book of Engines, and The Big Book of Engines, all published by Blackie; All on Wheels, and The Motor Book (with card covers), both published by Nelson; and a rather worn volume in worn and soiled thin card covers published by Geographia, London and dating from about WWI entitled Motors of All Sorts; Out-Door Sports, loose in boards, with verses by Louise A. Bingham and colour vignette illustrations, produced by the Saalfield Publishing Company, Akron, Ohio, plus a New York published volume with card covers entitled Around the World in an Automobile; and O'Galop's L'Auto K.6.O.20, with French text, written and illustrated by the author, Paris, Librairie Garnier Freres, 1921. Two children's painting books: The Painting Book, published by Betal Games (unused), and Motors to the Front!, published by Father Tuck's 'Patriotic' Series (partially completed, rather neatly) complete the lot. David K Stone (Oregon, 1922 - 2001) "Surrender of Bataan and Death March" Signed lower right. Original Oil painting on Masonite. Provenance: Collection of James A. Helzer (1946-2008), Founder of Unicover Corporation. This painting is the original painting which was published on the Republic of the Marshall Islands 29c Surrender at Bataan/Death March 1942 stamp issued April 9, 1992. By December 24, 1941, more than 60,000 Japanese troops were positioned near the Philippine capital of Manila. U.S. Gen. Douglas MacArthur withdrew his combined American and Filipino forces to the Bataan Peninsula and settled in for a siege. Ill with malaria and dysentery, the soldiers grew steadily weaker on their diet of dog, iguana, roots and berries. Ordered to Australia in March of 1942, MacArthur passed command to Gen. Jonathan Wainwright. On April 8, Wainwright and a small force withdrew to Corregidor. The following day, the 35,000 men left on Bataan surrendered and six days later were forced to trek 60 miles for transport to prison compounds. At least 10,000 men died on the Bataan Death March, victims of heat, starvation, heinous torture and execution. Image Size: 25 x 15.5 in. Overall Size: 27 x 24 in. Unframed. (B13719)
