"Incidentally, what is all this gossip about the poor Snowden's having broken up?", Daphne du Maurier: (1907 - 1989) British Author, T.L.S. 'Bing', 27th February 1967, one page, to Mrs Maureen Baker-Munton, nee Luschwitz, ('Dearest Maureen'), update letter on her son's Christian's (Kit's) visit with a friend 'Old Shawkie is installed in Tod's flat so she can cook for them in the evening, and this is a great help, as I couldn't possibly cope with my feeble cauliflower cheese dishes!' Of Christian's wife Olive, 'we have been worried over Olive through the weekend as she reported from Tithe Barn she was still getting floods of Roberty blood from her in'ards... It's rather awful, because supposing they removed her ovaries or something? That would put a strain on her and the marriage, she would have a breakdown or worse, they want lots of children, besides she is only 22 or is it 21. However, no good looking on the worst. Kits is getting so like Moper at times... sweet smiles of sarcasm when someone makes a silly remark' she reminisces. 'Incidentally, what is all this gossip about the poor Snowden's having broken up? It even got in the Sunday papers, and Tessa heard she had slashed her wrists and that is why she went into the Nursing Home. How wicked people are in London'. Daphne continues 'I am riveted each week to the Death of the President in Sunday Times. Poor little Jackie K, so brave'. Daphne refers to her husband Lieutenant-General Sir Frederick Browning (1896 - 1965) as 'Moper'.(All rights are reserved by The Chichester Partnership and no written materials may be reproduced in part or in full without the express prior written permission of The Chichester Partnership c/o Curtis Brown Group Ltd)
