Legatura coeva in cartonato. B.IN.G. 1895; Gamba 1678; Morazzoni 256.8° (200x140 mm). [4], 77, [3] pages. The last unnumbered pages contain Catalogo di alcuni Libri usciti dalle Stampe di Antonio Zatta. B.IN.G. 1895; Gamba 1678; Morazzoni 256.

Eisenberg Barone d'. La perfezione e i difetti del cavallo. Firenze, Stamperia Imperiale, 1753. In-folio (mm 344x252). [8, inclusa l'antiporta], CXLIII, [1] pagine. Frontespizio impresso in rosso e in nero, con marca tipografica silografica. Capilettera silografici ornati. (C.G. Lacaita - R. Gobbo - A. Turiel. La biblioteca di Carlo Cattaneo. Bellinzona, 2003). Folio (344x252 mm). [8, including frontispiece], CXLIII, [1] pages. 23 full-page engraved plates. Engraved frontispiece signed by Carlo Gregori. Title-page printed in red and in black, including the woodcut printer's device. Woodcut initials. Text in French and in Italian. Quire Q (pages LXIX-LXXI) is in the present copy erroneously bound between quires K and L. Foxing, some waterstains, some plates reinforced. First leaves and plates mounted on onglet, gutter of some leaves reinforced. Outer margin of the first plate cut, and soiled. Modern half morocco binding. The copy comes from the library of the Milanese chemist and science writer Antonio Cattaneo (1786-1845; his ownership inscription on recto of the first leaf: 'Antonio Cattaneo. Sig. Cattaneo Compania Quid Directeur des Écuries de S.A.R. le Duch de Chablais'); later the copy was owned by Cattaneo's nephew, Carlo, the well-known Milanese patriot and philosopher, who became Ambrosiana Library's Prefect (1801-1869; his ownership inscription on verso of the first leaf: 'Ex Libris Pref.ti Caroli Cattaneo'). First edition, printed on thick paper, of this classic work on horsemanship, by the German horseman Baron d'Eisenberg, at that time Director and Master of the Horse at the Academy in Pisa. The bilingual text is richly illustrated by 23 engraved plates: the first one - often lacking - shows Favori, un barbe de Tunis, while the remaining 22 plates include 120 illustrations describing the parts of the horse. The present copy comes from Carlo Cattaneo's book collection. Most of Cattaneo's books were carried in 1855 to Lugano (in Switzerland) where the Italian patriot spent the last years of his life. The nucleus of the collection merged the Lugano civic Library, while numerous books were gradually sold to deal with the family's creditors. (see C.G. Lacaita - R. Gobbo - A. Turiel. La biblioteca di Carlo Cattaneo. Bellinzona, 2003).
