THE DRAMA OF GRAF SPEE AND THE BATTLE OF THE PLATE', compiled by Sir Eugen Millington-Drake, London, Peter Davies 1964, limited edition no. 24/55, signed on the frontispiece and dedication by 44 key personnel associated with the action including the captains of Ajax, Achilles and Exeter, Mountbatten of Burma, Admiral Sir David Luce (First Sea Lord), Lt K. Diggins (Graf Spee flag Lt); Captain R. Ruggeburg (Naval Attaché Germany Embassy) and many others, 510pp with indices, maps and illustrations, bound in red full calf with gilt decorated cover and spine --10¼ x 8in. (26 x 20cm.); together with a contemporary white metal plaque commemorating the action, with repousse decoration inscribed 13th December 1939, H.M.S.s Ajax, Achilles and Exeter, with enamelled white ensign to centre, mounted to a wooden shield -- 6in. (15cm.) high, -2, Research conducted with a member of the Exeter association discovered that only eight of these plaques were made by a retired shepherd on the Falkland Islands from recycled RN sports trophies and sold as souvenirs to the crew of the ships undergoing temporary refits there.

FATHER BROWN: John Monsignor O'Connor (1870-1952) Irish Catholic Priest who was instrumental in G. K. Chesterton's conversion to Roman Catholicism in 1922. O'Connor was also the basis for Chesterton's fictional detective Father Brown. An interesting A.L.S., Yours autograftically, John O'Connor, one page, 4to, Bradford, 16th June 1933, to Miss [Eileen M.] Cond. O'Connor announces 'How do you spell surprise? Of course you now have Father Brown's autograph as witness my hand' and continues 'As to Mr. G. K. C[hesterton] it is rare enough as he dictates everything, or if he writes a bit, he destroys it as wastepaper. Your best plan would be to send one of his small books to be signed by him….that's what I have done myself. I am hoping to see him next week, so if you write again after June 24th I may have a stray autograph of his to send you. I wonder how many autographs get lost for ever…..' Together with an A.N.S., John O'Connor, one page, 8vo, Bradford, 12th July 1933, in full, 'Behold! I thought you had fallen from first favour'. Also including G. K. Chesterton (1874-1936) English Writer. Dark ink signature ('G. K. Chesterton') on a small oblong 12mo piece. An Edwardian ruby and diamond cluster ring, the oval shaped ruby is millegrain-set within a surround of old circular cut diamonds and within a border of calibre cut rubies. Set in platinum and gold. Stylised Fleur-de-lis shoulders. Size K. Accompanied by report number 5777-9093 dated 14th March 2017 from GCS, London stating that the cushion-shaped ruby weighs approximately 0.80cts and is a natural ruby with no indications of heating. Origin: Burma.
