(x) Japanese Occupation of Marshall IslandsOverall these overprints are considered to have had more of a propaganda character, rather than postal. They are believed to have been initially produced for use on mail by the German population etc (Japanese proclamation in October 1914 specifically permitted sending of mail to anywhere in the world, free to Japan), but mail privilages were quickly withdrawn by order of higher authorities (December 1914). No postal usage is recorded as surviving, so either no mail was actually despatched in initial period, or more likely it was all seized in transit to Japan, or otherwise lost1914 red seal overprints of Paymaster K.
