Sir Alexander Allan Bt. (1764-1820) Views in the Mysore Country 20 uncoloured aquatints, unbound, engraved title page dedicated to Charles Marquis Cornwallis K. G., Governor General of Bengal, 6 sheets/12pp. descriptive letterpress pages at end all pierced in margins left side and tied together Sheet sizes 48 x 69cm; 19 x 27¼in A rare book of views of India. Allan was a painter and politician who joined the East India Company as a cadet in 1779. He served in the Madras Infantry from 1780 and took part in the third and fourth Mysore wars and this book came from images drawn towards the end of the third campaign. He was a military topographer of some note and produced works for the British public particularly to feed their growing interest in Tipu Sultan.

A Victorian novelty silver box fashioned in the form of an articulated fish, hallmarked for London 1899, with import mark and mark for Theodor Hartmann (agent for K Kurz of Kesselstadt, Germany), having hinged head opening to reveal ovoid form box, the lower lip also hinged, with cast gill cover, scale and fin detail, set rose cut red garnet eyes, length 14.7cm, (115.5g), together with a similar novelty continental silver box fashioned in the form of an articulated fish, stamped ".800", length 12.5cm (56.8g). A late 19thC French sequined gauze Fan, with sixteen sticks and two guard sticks formed of bone, alternately carved in light relief with gilt highlighting, and studded with steel sequins, 9in (23cm) long, 17in (43cm) span, in a 'Fred K Penberthy, Oxford Street', box, together with a similar, larger, fan in a 'J Duvelleroy, Regent Street,' box, gauze split at the folds, and two other late 19thC /early 20thC sequined gauze fans, one with Abalone shell sticks and guards, profusely appliquéd with Abalone shell ovals and having a scalloped edge giving the appearance of Peacock feathers (6)
