Rowling, J. K. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, one 2nd issue, two 11th issues, with four Bloomsbury bookplates signed by the author, London: Bloomsbury, 1999. Two of the signed bookplates have been applied to the 11th issues, the other two signed bookplates are unused (stickers with backing still attached), together with a letter from Thames television, signed by Gloria Hunniford, congratulating the vendor's daughter as the runner-up in their Harry Potter Wizard Competition, 29 July 1999. The two 11th issues are very well-preserved, bold & bright, and both appear to be unread, i.e. fine or near-fine examples; the 2nd issue is slightly bumped at extremities, the edges of text-block are toned & dusty, in a faded jacket (3) Provenance: Two books (and all four bookplates) were purchased for the vendor's three children by their grandmother at the Peak Bookshop in Chesterfield where she was a regular and valued customer - she bought every grandchild their own copy of each Harry Potter novel upon publication from this shop; one book was won in the Thames television competition

JK Rowling was the Ambassador for National Council for One Parent Families so was attending the conference. JK Rowling was lovely and quipped that her books are probably worth more unsigned, as she'd signed so many. We were very proud to have a signed copy. Unfortunately my granddaughter who is now 11 and loves Harry Potter, damaged this particular book when she was a toddler.'

Of the 500 copies printed, 300 were issued to schools & libraries - this is a superb example of one of the even scarcer and more desirable 200 that were issued to booksellers. Octavo, hardback, publisher's original laminated pictorial boards. Complete with all requisite issue points, namely: full number line on copyright page, "10 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1"; "1 wand" appearing twice on p.53; "Philosopher's" misspelled "Philospher's" on rear cover; "Wizardry and Witchcraft" [rather than "Witchcraft and Wizardry"] on rear cover; "Joanne Rowling" on copyright page; no space between "Taylor" and "1997" on copyright page. Internally very well-preserved, clean & bright; usual light toning to page edges; appears almost unread: no folded corners, no inscriptions, no foxing; a few very faint marginal marks in places, including lower gutters of title; original endpapers are good & bright with a star-shaped surface mark at corner of front pastedown; very slightly pulling at gutters of final page; binding very good, strong & unrestored with original laminated finish; slight fading/discolouration to spine; a few very faint scratches to laminate; light wear to extreme corners of boards & spine; very lightly bumped at edges of spine; a couple of very small, light bumps to edges of boards; very slight shelf-lean. Overall, very good indeed - a remarkably well-preserved example of the true first issue of the author's debut novel and first in the Harry Potter series.
