WALTER CRANE (1845-1915) LITTLE RED CAP (LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD) Inscribed LITTLE RED CAP, pen and black ink Main image 3.5 x 12cm.; capital `T` 3.5 x 3.5cm.; with a pencil drawing of Andrew Marvell by Ford Madox Brown, monogrammed and dated 78 in ink, 21.5 x 13cm.; `My Beautiful Lady` and `My Lady in Death`, etchings by Wiliam Holman Hunt for `The Germ`, 1850, printed on a single sheet, 18 x 10cm.; and a woodcut, `Procession to the Hill` from `The Tale of Cupid and Psyche` of angel musicians playing horns, by William Morris, 10 x 15.5cm. (4) * The Crane item is a design for `Household Stories by Grimms` (Macmillan, 1882), sold at Sothebys Belgravia. The Madox Brown drawing is a study for his `Cromwell, Protector of the Vaudois` (1877, Manchester Art Gallery) and was sold at Christies, London, April 24th, 1975, as part of lot 45 (authenticity confirmed by Mary Bennett, February 2003). The Morris print was exhibited in Julian Hartnoll's `Pre-Raphaelite Graphics` exhibition, March-April 1974, no.48. The four items were purchased by Ronald Pickvance from S. & K. THE REMARKABLE D -DAY DISTINGUISHED SERVICE MEDAL GROUP TO STOKER 1ST CLASS LEGGOT, the sole survivor of his LCA off Gold Beach, who was pulled unconscious from the water. Kenneth George Leggott was born in Scunthorpe in 1922. As a Stoker 1st Class Leggot was part of Assault Group G2 and serving on LCA (HR) 1106 on D-Day. The Landing Craft Assault was equipped with Spigot mortars, designed to be fired onto the beach to clear mines and beach obstacles. 1106 had manoeuvred into its firing position but was accidentally rammed by LCT 899 of the 34th Flotilla. Leggot's DSM was announced in the London Gazette 14th November 1944 'For gallantry, skill, determination and undaunted devotion to duty during the landing of Allied Forces on the coast of Normandy.' For a number of years it was believed the four-man crew of 1106 had all perished, but with the discovery of Leggott's DSM and the subsequent discovery of the original recommendation that was disproved. The original recommendation tells a remarkable tale of bravery and a miracle survival. ' When L.C.A (HR 1106 was in a sinking condition, Sto Leggott remained in his engine room although the water had come over the engines, and he kept pumping out water until he was fully submerged. He was picked up from the water, unconscious after the craft had sunk - the only survivor'. Kenneth passed away in 1992. DSM correctly engraved Sto. 1 K. G. OAK LEAVES SWORDS AND DIAMONDS TO THE KNIGHTS CROSS OF THE IRON CROSS A superb set of Type B Oak leaves Swords and Diamonds to the Knights Cross of the Iron Cross. This type is shown on page 170 of Adrian Foreman's Book "Bravery Courage and Valour" Marked 800 and K for Klein, multi-piece construction. Foreman states the set is unattributed. With original case and a piece of original ribbon. The Type A sets were awarded at the same time and usually kept safely at home. Type B sets were worn on active duty Extremely rare.
