A FINE RUSSIAN PAINTED LACQUER PLAQUE WITH REGIMENTAL SCENE, 1896. A finely painted depiction of various Imperial Russian Hussar Guards, exhibiting great accuracy in rendering the various accoutrements and insignia. Signed lower left in Cyrillic, K. Piratsky and verso dated 1896 on a decorated foil ground beneath a painted Imperial double headed eagle, probably Lukutin. The signature at lower left obviously refers to the noted court painter Karl Larlovich Piratsky (1813-1871) after which the offered lot was no doubt inspired. From 1855-1869 Piratsky worked as head of the drawing department for the publication Russia’s Military Chronicle. Contained in an ornate gilt wood frame. Plaque 11.8 inches x 12 inches (27.3 x 30.5 cm).
