[BALLETS RUSSES] - Konstantin Dmitrievitch BALMONT (1867-1942), 6 carnets de plus de 200 pages de poèmes autographes écrits dans les années 1920 (2 carnets datés de 1928). Konstantin Balmont est un poète russe qui s’est dressé contre le tsarisme avant 1917, puis contre la dictature du prolétariat des Bolchéviques après octobre 1917. C’est une figure majeure de la poésie russe du début du XXe siècle. 2 de ses poèmes ont été adaptés en musique par Igor Stravinsky. Les 6 carnets sont écrits pour la plupart à l’encre noire ou bleue, très lisiblemement, et présentent des poèmes lyriques et politiques ainsi que plusieurs traductions de poèmes des Balkans. Certains poèmes expriment l’amour de son auteur pour la Russie ou sont inspirés de contes traditionnels russes. Plusieurs poèmes sont dédicacés, notamment au philosophe Alexandre Herzen, au chef d’orchestre Serge Koussevitzy, à l’écrivain Ivan Chmeliov ou encore Adam Mickiewicz. Chaque poème est signé K. Petropoli, e typ. imper. 1784-88. 2 vol. in-folio basane marbrée, dos à nerfs ornés et dorés, étiquettes anthracite roulette dorée encadrant les plats, armes dorées au centre (reliures frottées, coiffes arrachées, coins abîmés). 101 planches coloriées de plantes par K. F. Knappe, numérotées de 1 à 100. Il y a 2 planches bis (8 et 66). La planche 59 se trouve entre les planches 64 et 66, la planche 65 manque. Il est d’une exécution magnifique dit Brunet. Bel exemplaire agréablement colorié, aux armes dorées de l’Empereur de toutes les Russies (Aigles à 2 têtes, couronnées). Peter Simon Pallas a été mandaté par l’Impératrice Catherine II pour composer ce livre alors qu’il était Professeur à l’Académie des Sciences de Saint-Pétersbourg. L’ouvrage devait à l’origine comprendre 6 vol. avec 600 planches illustrant toutes les plantes de l’empire de Russie mais seul le 1er vol. à été publié. Quelques exemplaires comprenant 25 nouvelles planches ont été cependant édités en 1831.
