A fascinating and unique personal WWII Second World War period photograph album, belonging to a Bristol nurse of the 101 British General Hospital (sent into Europe after D-Day & VE-Day to tend to soldiers). The album - completely filled - features candid images of the nurses time spent in Belgium, Germany, and other locations in Europe just as the war was coming to an end, and as it ended. Throughout the album are various documents / souvenirs including a typed poem (likely by the album's owner), ' Non-Fraternisation ' pamphlets (forbidding the British to Fraternise with any Germans), German money, various orders of service for VE-Day celebrations. Many of the photographs are taken of the nurse and her friends (largely Eileen, Peggy and Thelma), several photographs of ' 101 Hospital ' (in Belgium - at the Institut Du Sacré Coeur), heavy bomb damage in Munster, ' K ' Ward, Antwerp, ' VE Night Campaign In Mugs!', some wonderful pictures titled ' Leaving 101 Hospital ' showing the entire 101 BGH unit alongside an aeroplane, various bombed bridges in Germany. A fascinating glimpse into a war-torn Europe immediately after the war, and into nursing at the time. Towards the rear of the album, and likely post-War, is a section titled ' Bristol Army Blood Transfusion Centre ' and features several candid images of staff at the centre, procedures, etc.
