A silver large rounded rectangular twin handled tray by Elkington & Co., Birmingham 1913, with foliate loop handles, a raised gadrooned rim with foliage, shells and masks at intervals, engraved with a fox hunter taking a leap and 'Yoiks', presentation engraved beneath, 75cm (29 1/2in) long, 5006g (160.95 oz) The inscription reads: Eric Frank O'Hara Maxwell on the occasion of his marriage and in memory of many cheery bachelor days sometime back now and far away. From A. N. K.Eric Frank O'Hara Maxwell was born in Simla, Bengal, India on 5th September 1873 to William Edward Maxwell and Lillias Grant Aberigh-MacKay. He died on 14th April 1929 in Kensington, London.He was third son of Sir William Maxwell, British Resident of Selangor and acting Governor of the Straits Settlements from 1893-94, was educated at Cheltenham College and Bedford Grammar School. He came to Singapore in 1894 and was articled to Messrs. Drew and Napier. Later he practiced as an advocate and solicitor in Ipoh, and founded the legal firm of Maxwell and Kenion, with Arthur Noel Kenion (the A. N. K. of the inscription). He retired in 1909. Dibbin (Railway Engineers) large rolled manuscript map mounted on linen, with a fair bit of wear, 880 x 650 mm, 1837.*Notes Thatcham Estate belonged to the daughter of the proprietor of the first Mail Coach, Edward Fromont, the family were involved in the mail coach business until the coming of the railways. The railway is indicated on the plan by the surveyor F. W, Dibbin, a family member, who worked with I. K. Brunel. The Kennet and Avon Canal runs to the south of the estate.
