An early 20th century Japanese Fukugawa porcelain vase decorated with a three-claw dragon amongst clouds, on lilac ground, stylised painted mark to base, height 24cm.Footnote: This vase was presented to John Lankester Parker OBE by the Japanese Aviation firm Kawanishi when Mr Parker, representing the British Aviation firm Short Brothers, visited to instruct and supervise the production of the Short-Kawanishi K-F1 flying boat in the early 1930s; three photographs depicting this visit are included in this lot.Additional InformationVase appears in good condition, some very light general wear and dirt.
NIELSEN (K), illus, EAST OF THE SUN AND WEST OF THE MOON, OLD TALES FROM THE NORTH, with twenty-five tipped in plates with tissue guards, rebound in full black leather with gilt detailing, later marbled end papers, double page of original end papers bound in at front, original front cover bound in at the back, Hodder & Stoughton [1914] (1).Additional InformationLeather binding with a few light scuffs, a small impression to the back cover and very light rubbing to corners but generally good. Internally pages with age wear browning throughout and corners slightly rounded. Tissue guard for frontis is slightly loose – it has come away from the binding at the top and the bottom. Title page weak where it joins the binding at the gutter – it has creased here along the vertical length and is torn up this crease from the bottom for about a third of the length of the page and from the top down for about a quarter of the length. Ink name and pencil name written to the back of one of the original end papers. Some damp marks to the bottom edge of several pages, this does not seem to affect the tissue guards. Tissue guard at P92 with small chip. Plates clean and bright.
