A George V silver argyle, by Martin Hall & Co, Sheffield 1912, of simple cylindrical form with gadroon edged base and rim, the hinged cover slightly domed and topped with an urn shaped finial, with simple strap handle, sparrow beak spout with part marked hinged cover and S shaped pouring spout, 15ozt 13 x 8 x 8cm (5 x 3 x 3in) Other Notes: The Argyle or Argyll was named after the fifth Duke of Argyll, John Campbell, in the mid 18th Century. He lived in a chilly Scottish castle and disliked the fact that the gravy arrived cold at the dinner table during the winter season. To prevent this from happening, the 'argyle' was invented in order to keep gravy warm. The vessel is of double-walled construction, allowing hot water to be poured into a jacket surrounding the interior, thus keeping the contents at an ambient temperature throughout the meal. Body and cover with minor denting and a very small split. Handle detached at the base, and showing signs of previous poor quality repair at both ends. Hinge to the cover loose.
A SUPERB LARGE PAIR OF VICTORIAN SILVER SIX BRANCH CANDELABRA, with central candle sconce, 31ins high, the centre column support with six scrolling branches, each with a rams mask finial, the base with three curving supports with cast bulls heads, on a triangular base with entwined serpent. London 1879. Maker: Stephen Smith. Weight 272 troy ounces. Provenance: Believed to be a Maltese family with bulls head and Maltese cross crest.Condition report: One of the finial/stoppers is stuck. A couple of the sconces are corroded/water damaged. One has had a repair, otherwise all appears in good condition. From a local private family.
A Long-Cased Grandfather Clock. The 8 day mahogany cased clock with broken pediment and brass eagle and ball finial with blind ornament. Arched door reveals a polished steel face with Roman dial, calendar and second hand aperture and brass foliate spandrels, flanked by two columns with brass capitals and bases, approx 230 cms.
Juventa Prima circa 1902 pewter mounted and glass Jugendstil punch bowl, decorated with bunched grapes motif and coup de fouet twin handles, 38cm, with matching glass holders (two containing glass etched with fruiting vine), a ladle, and a Juventa Prima pewter mounted and glass biscuit barrel and cover, with arched handle, 33.5cmHans Peter was head of the handicraft department at WMF, before creating his own firm which changed names over the years but for a short period in the early 20th century the factory was stamping its pewter products 'Juventa Prima metal'. Stand - cover finial weak, metal mounts slightly misshapen, stand in similar order with the feet bent slightly outwards. Glass bowl in good order. Cups - three missing glass liners. All with overall surface wear and minor dents. Ladle in good order, no major issues found other than overall wear. All with wear to decoration.
