A Chaffers, Liverpool Blue and White Porcelain Vase, circa 1755-60, of hexagonal panelled baluster shape, the short neck painted with lozenge trellis, the shoulder panels centred by lotus blossoms alternately against cellular backgrounds, and with conforming panels to the base, the cover with compressed ovoid finial, 30cm high overall A vase of similar shape and pattern (though with chinoiserie landscapes alternating on the shoulder and basal panels) was exhibited by Simon Spero Eight Days in June, Ceramics in Kensington, 9th-17th June 2003, illustration on page 24 (top). This vase was part of an unrecorded garniture of Chaffers Liverpool vases of circa 1755-60. In his introduction to the catalogue, Spero mentions Foremost among these is a remarkable and hitherto unrecorded garniture of three Chaffers Liverpool vases of tapering hexagonal shape. It is always an exciting moment to set eyes upon something which you had imagined to exist and these extraordinary vases serve as a stimulating reminder that there is always something new under the sun.

A Dutch Silver Gilt Berry Knop Spoon, maker`s mark indistinct, Leeuwarden, circa 1620-40, with fig shaped bowl, cast hexagonal tapering stem and cast berry finial, initialled IT over IR and later crested to the interior of the bowl, 17.2cm long, 1oz 7dwt This spoon is one of a rare Dutch group typified by straight stems and berry finials made in and around Leeuwarden in the first half of the 17th century, though many are unmarked. A note accompanying this lot states that this item is featured in Arnolds London Catalogue, 1852 and in Maw`s catalogue 1839. This lot was purchased from the collection of Leslie Matthews. Part of the collection of the late WA Jackson, author of The Victorian Chemist & Druggist (Illustrated).

Squires", rebuilt from flintlock circa 1815-20, with brown twist iron barrel belled towards the muzzle, engraved "Breech Tong", signed engraved bolted lock and walnut full stock with chequered grip, with engraved iron mounts including blued trigger-plate with pineapple finial and original ramrod. Overall length 34 ins.
