An oak eight-day long caseclock, 13'' arched brass dial with silvered chapter ring, the arch with silvered plaque bearing an inscription Jos. Barnit, Birmingham, later movement, 230cm high . 160521 Case with surface scratches in parts, hood with central finial missing and chips to edges, trunk door with several chips to the left hand side edge, plinth with feet missing. Dial winding holes have been later drilled to accommodate a later 8 day movement. Movement dirty and needs cleaning but looks complete. With pendulum and two weights.

He trained with Josse de Corte and is known to have produced sculpture for the interior of the Church of Santa Maria in Araceli in Vicenza, but he is best known for his secular, garden sculpture. As well as statuary and ornament sculpted for the Querini Park, he and his studio created over 150 statues for the estate and gardens of the Villa Lampertico, also in Vicenza. Many are stock characters from the Commedia dell'arte theatre, whilst others depict the so-called bravi (desperadoes). He was also commissioned to produce a fine fountain group for the villa gardens, la Ruota, all his work being executed in the local Vicenza stone.Condition Report: Marks, knocks, scratches, scuffs, abrasions consistent with age and use.Overall this appears in good condition with no obvious restoration, the surface with lichen and moss growth consistent with age and storage outside.
