A VICTORIAN FOUR PIECE TEA AND COFFEE SERVICE, London 1878, mark of Henry Holland, comprising teapot, coffee pot, cream jug and two handled sugar bowl, each of tapering baluster form with angular handles, the pots each with flat hinged lid and plain silver finial, the bodies of each with conforming chased and engraved scrolling foliate decoration contained within heart shaped panels above leafy swags, crested to one side, the creamer and sugar bowl each with gilt interior, (c.1804g all in). A GEORGE III MATCHED THREE PIECE TEA SERVICE, London 1806, mark of Peter and William Bateman, comprising tea pot, cream jug and sugar bowl, the creamer London 1808, maker’s mark rubbed, each with bright cut engraved bands of decoration including palmettes, lozenges, beading etc., a wreath to either side, one wreath containing initials on both the teapot and sugar bowl, the teapot with applied ebon handle and cast and stained carved timber pineapple finial, (c.855g all in). A LARGE JAPANESE IMARI BALUSTER VASE AND COVER C.1700 The octagonal body decorated in underglaze blue, iron red and gold with shaped panels containing sprays of chrysanthemum and flowering prunus on a dense ground of rhomboid brocade designs, with bands of scrolls, flowerheads and stylised leaves above the foot and to the neck, the shoulder and lid decorated with further scrolls, leaves and brocade balls, with a rounded flattened finial, 52cm. TWO CHINESE YIXING TEAPOTS AND COVERS 18TH/19TH CENTURY One with an ovoid body lobed to simulate a chrysanthemum flower, the finial formed as a bud, marked Sheng He, the other of simple ovoid form with the spout reconstructed in gilded metal, the rim and finial mounted in gilded metal, the lid connected to the handle with a double chain, a seven character inscription to the base, signed Meng Chen, 11.5cm. A CHINESE PALE CELADON JADE VASE AND COVER QING DYNASTY The flattened pear-shaped body carved in shallow relief to each side with a scholar beneath a tree with an attendant, one holding a duck, with animal mask loose-ring handles divided by a band of stylised rocks to the neck, the finial formed as a sinuous dragon, together with an archaistic two-handled celadon jade cup, carved in relief with studs and stylised dragons' heads, each raised on a hardwood stand, 18.9cm max. A LARGE CHINESE CELADON JADE EWER AND COVER QIANLONG 1736-95 The baluster-shaped body raised on a double lotus foot, the handle formed as a ribbon-tied bunch of lotus, with flower stems and leaves extending around the body, a small bird perched on a seed pod to one side. The spout formed from a curled leaf, the neck with a band of spiral roundels dividing the handles, another bird forming the cover's finial, all raised on an openwork hardwood stand carved with millet and lotus, 26cm. (3) Cf. Compendium of Collections in the Palace Museum, Jade 10, Qing Dynasty, p.66, no.39 for a related vase and cover.
A CHINESE SILVER-WIRE INLAID BRONZE INCENSE BURNER QING DYNASTY The compressed ovoid body with two lug handles and raised on a short flared foot, inlaid with silver wire depicting archaistic taotie designs, cloud scrolls and key fret above a band of stylised dragons, the base with a six character Xuande mark dividing a two character shi sou mark, with a carved hardwood ruyi stand and cover, the cover with a pale celadon jade finial carved as a fish, 19.8cm. (3) Cf. R S Jenyns & W Watson, Chinese Art, p.92, no.58 where a related incense burner with comparable decoration is illustrated.
A CHINESE FAMILLE ROSE BAXIAN BOWL, COVER AND LINER IRON-RED SIX CHARACTER JIAQING MARK AND OF THE PERIOD 1796-1820 Decorated with the Eight Immortals engaged in various pursuits in rocky gardens, the lion dog finial and mask side lifts gilded, the interior and base turquoise, the liner with faux bois to the underside, 18.5cm. (3) Provenance: acquired by John Reeves after his arrival in Canton in 1812, and thence by descent. Cf. 20th May 2009, lot 354 for the pair to this bowl from the Reeves collection sold in these rooms.
