STARLING WILFORD OR SAMUEL WELDER; a small George I hallmarked silver sugar caster with domed pierced cover and panelled octagonal body on spreading foot, London 1726, height 11cm, approx 2.9ozt/90g.Additional InformationThe hallmarks are still legible but slightly obscured. there is a later stamp to the base 'GM.M.3:0', but the piece itself is in good order. It is a good gauge, has just minor rubbing to the raised parts, as you would expect. The finial is very slightly misshapen, the cover has the maker's mark indistinctly stamped twice.

Heavily tarnished and toned throughout, there appears to be some possible old repair where the seam for the base meets the body of the pot. Slightly misshapen rim with a few small dents and surface scratches.Handle is firm and solid. We cannot comment as to whether or not this is usable and watertight.

The bonbon dish dented and misshapen to rim, further scratches, build up of old polish and tarnish.

WILLIAM BOND & JAMES PHIPPS I; a good George II hallmarked silver spirit kettle, the wing loop rattan topped handle above hinged lid, later embossed floral decorated main body and pierced floral decorated stand with integral burner and three shell feet, London 1752, height to top of finial 24.5cm, height to top of handle 32cm, approx 42.2ozt/1314g.Additional InformationThe rattan is in very good condition, has possibly been replaced, the finial is damaged where it meets the lid, please refer to illustrations to show this. It does not appear to have been engraved at any stage to the cartouche as overall it has a very solid gauge. Minor surface scratches with some tarnishing and toning throughout. The base and upper section both carry full sets of legible hallmarks.

A GERMAN ZISCHÄGGE, MID-17TH CENTURY with hemispherical one-piece skull embossed with six radiating ribs, fitted at its apex with a pierced finial and foliate washer, and at its brow with a flat ogival peak, pierced at its rear with a rectangular hole to accommodate a sliding nasal-bar secured at the brow by a rectangular staple and locking-screw (restored), at its nape with a broad ogival neck-guard of three upward-overlapping lames, and at its sides with pendant cheek-pieces (restored), the main edges of the helmet formed throughout with plain inward turns (the surface showing patches of light pitting and minor denting) 23.0 cm; 9 in high Provenance Robin Wigington, Arbour Antiques, 7th January 1989.

GERMAN FLINTLOCK SPORTING GUN FOR THE WURTTEMBERG COURT HUNT, THE BARRELS SIGNED BLAS SEILER VON EHING, CIRCA 1830 in the French taste, with blued barrels inlaid over their length with scrolling silver foliage and flowers, silver fore-sight, signed over the breeches and inlaid with a bouquet of flowers, silver vents, border-engraved tang decorated with foliage and decorated with the Royal arms of Wurttemberg in silver (rubbed), blued locks decorated with trophies-of-arms and trophies-of-hunting in inlaid and engraved silver, fitted with semi-rainproof pans and rollers, figured walnut half-stock, chequered fore-end and grip each inset with an alternating arrangement of foliate and plain silver studs, the locks and tang enclosed by further minute studs, the former further enriched with silver wire and the latter with a pair of silver Medusa masks and foliate rondels, carved butt with finely scrolling foliate terminal behind the trigger-guard, raised cheek-piece profusely inlaid with vine fruit and foliage on the left, the right decorated with a matching design enclosing a star formed of alternating panels of dark stained horn and mother-of-pearl, engraved iron mounts comprising trigger-guard with neo-classical finial including a warrior head, and a putto playing a flute on the bow, butt-cap with a horse on the spur, rear ramrod-pipe with a bull's head, silver fore-end cap, silver escutcheon numbered '2', and associated steel ramrod 89.2 cm; 35 1/8 in barrels Blasius Sailer is recorded repairing firearms in the town of Ehingen, Wurttemberg 1825-6 and as a resident of that town 1838-40. The decoration is reminiscent of Christian Koerber who also worked for the Wurttemberg royal family.
**A RARE SCANDINAVIAN COMBINED RAPIER AND MUSKET REST, 17TH CENTURY, PROBABLY NORWEGIAN with long slender tapering blade of flattened-diamond section, fitted at the base with a wooden collar carved in low relief, fitted in its early life with an iron head of U-shaped form with finely chiselled ram's head finial, tapering socket pierced for a match hook (missing) and decorated beneath with foliage, in its wooden scabbard carved en suite with the wooden collar, decorated with horizontal panels of allegorical figures in low relief including a King, warriors and trophies-of-arms (small chips, repaired in three places), and spiked iron shoe decorated en suite with the socket, and with brass inventory tag '472' 103.2 cm; 40 5/8 in blade Provenance George F. Harding Jr., Chicago Transferred to the Art Institute of Chicago, 1982, Acc. No. 1982.2855 A note in the museum archives by Stephen V. Grancsay states that this was originally a sword cane, later adapted to a musket rest and exhibited at the Columbian World Exhibition, Chicago, 1893.
