A CHINESE SILVER WIRE-INLAID BRONZE INCENSE BURNER, QING DYNASTY The compressed ovoid body with two lug handles and raised on a short flared foot, inlaid with silver wire depicting archaistic taotie designs, cloud scrolls and key fret above a band of stylized dragons, the base with a six character Xuande mark dividing a two character shi sou mark, with a carved hardwood ruyi stand and cover, the cover with a pale celadon jade finial carved as a fish, 19.8cm. A very fine brass barrelled flintlock ship’s musketoon, or boat gun, by Bumford, c 1760, 50½” overall, barrel 34” with 1¾” bore, belled muzzle and early style London proofs; signed rounded line engraved lock with swan neck cock and bridled frizzen; plain walnut fullstock with raised apron around breech tang; brass mounts of early ordnance pattern, with bulbous trigger guard finial, wavy flat sideplate and flat butt plate; with its original brass tipped wooden ramrod. Very Good Working Order and Clean Condition. An exceptional example of its type. Plate 66

†A very good French dragoon officer’s helmet, c 1840-1845, gilt skull with leopard skin turban, tall comb, the side profusely decorated with volutes, floral devices and leaves, in the front a Medusa head finial, and a grenade, on the front of the comb is a black hair “shaving brush” plume in foliate socket, and at the back is a long black trailing plume, twisted wire link chinchain, backed with leather, with stylized leaf embossed ear roundels, to the left of the skull is a socket for scarlet feather side plume with corded boss, leather lining. Very Good Condition retaining all its original gilt, (one or two tiny dents to skull) Plate 19

A scarce French 20 bore officers’ Model 1740-1750 Gendarmerie de France flintlock holster pistol, 18½” overall, barrel 11¾” with top flat and octagonal breech; stepped lock with flat swan neck cock and squared pan with unbridled frizzen, the plate with engraved decoration and name “La Chai-- Paris”; fullstocked with steel trigger guard, ramrod pipes and long spurred butt cap with silver grotesque mask finial, and with openwork silver sideplate incorporating laureate bust, and silver escutcheon surmounted by coronet and incorporating military trophies. †An officer’s 1828 pattern helmet of the South Salopian Yeomanry, silver plated skull and comb, gilt binding to front and rear peaks, acanthus leaf side ornaments, leather backed chinscales, with lion’s head ear bosses, wavy edged border to tall comb, lion finial and rayed helmet plate bearing crowned 1816-37 Royal Arms and supporters on Prince of Wales’s feathers, a small oval plate at the base of the comb marked “SSY”, leather lining (incomplete); together with a copy of Carman “Headdresses of the British Army: Yeomanry” 1970. Good Condition, retaining much original gilt (shallow dents to sides of comb). Plate 18

A cavalry officer’s 16 bore flintlock pistol carbine by D. Egg, c 1790, the pistol 18” overall, flat topped round barrel 12” with folding leaf rearsight and engraved “--D. Egg- London --”, rounded signed lock with swan neck cock, plain walnut fullstock with regulation brass mounts, large trigger guard with plain rounded finial, and with brass tipped ramrod, the butt with keyed steel plate into which the 11” walnut skeleton stock clips by means of a spring catch which is released by a lever on the underside, upper tang engraved “Egg’s Patent - Butt”, and with small lanyard ring on the left side, pistol and stock both impressed with the number “4”. Sword: an 18th century Hunting Hanger. Two bar guard marked 'KOHL' (sword maker Stultgart from 1793). Steel guard with quillon with Acorn finial. Staghorn grip. Lovely engraving to blade of Stag's head, musket and hunting swords. Fullered blade 24" with spear point, broad fuller with narrow channel above. This is a lovely sword circa 1800. No scabbard. Some staining to blade. Viewing recommended.
