A West African Mandinka Manding People Takouba sword. Clad leather grip with a square section finial and a woven decorative band. Ottoman Empire damascened steel flanged mace with gold gilt decoration, ca. 17th to 18th century. Likely Turkish in origin. With a gold star and crescent along the upper finial, a symbol of the Ottoman Empire.Length: 23 in.Condition:No major bends, breaks, dents, or losses. Some losses to the gilt decoration. Some discoloration to the metal throughout.

There is repair to the edge of the lid, measuring approximately 4 inches wide; there are three metal 'staples' along the repair. There are firing flaws throughout the body. The lustre glaze repousse decorated in gilt with dragons chasing the flaming pearl,, the cover surmounted by a dragon amongst clouds, on three splay feet, with a pair of mask ring handles, height 14.5cm, width 16cm, on a carved wood stand with three splay feet, height 4cm, width 12.5cm. Various Chinese carved wood stands and covers, 19th/20th century. Five stands and four covers, including a carved dragon decorated stand, height 7cm, diameter 19cm, inner diameter 15.5cm. (9)The Vandekar family established their internationally renowned antiques dealership in Amsterdam before moving to London in 1916. They specialized in the decorative arts of the 17th-20th century with a particular interest in 18th-19th century European and Chinese ceramics. In the 1970s and 80s, Michael Beard worked as a ceramics expert in the London showroom of Earle D. Vandekar of Knightsbridge, travelling internationally to trade shows and antiques fairs, and helping with the launch of the New York branch of Vandekar in 1982. There is no surprise that he leaves in his estate some beautiful examples of porcelain, ceramics, and objets d’art. When Michael retired to Cornwall around 1988 he settled at first in St Ives, where he became a prominent patron of the arts and a devoted member of the Old Cornwall Society. On his death he has left a collection boasting some fine examples of Cornish painting, sculpture, studio pottery, and decorative chinoiserieOne cover lacking finial.

The cover surmounted by a dog of fo, above shaped opposing panels enclosing precious objects, Kangxi four character mark, height 31.5cm, width 11cm.The right ear of the Fo dog on the finial has a small chip. Glaze chip to his tail on the left hand side. Glaze pitting to the lid and body in areas, otherwise good antique condition.

The censer was bought in Shanghai in 1935 by the vendors uncle, who along with his brother (the vendors father) were working as Senior Constructors to the Admiralty for the design and construction of gunboats which included those used for the patrol of the Yangtze River.Weight of censer 1260 grams.
