Theriaca was one of the oldest pharmacy medicines and Andromacus of Crete, personal physician of Emperor Nero, is considered its inventor. A late 19th century Chinese blue-and-white vase of baluster form; decorated with leaves and chrysanthemum heads above Ming-style lappets. Dome-topped cover with Shishi finial. Raised on circular hardwood base. (height including base, 30cm) Condition Report: The domed top cover has one or two minor chips away from the inside of the lip to the underside, the dog finial looks in good condition and some glaze and run over to the underside of the cover. The main vase has a 1.5 inch section restored to the lip showing prevalently on the inside and outside as pure white with no over painting. The rest of the vase looks in good original condition and the carved wooden stand appears in good order although in used condition.
A pair of Imari vases and covers with panels of flaming pearls on a ground of chrysanthemums. Together with a circa 1670 Imari bowl densely enamelled with prunus and underglaze blue rocks. (24cm diameter) (3)Condition Report: Sadly the bowl is very damaged and has been repaired with glue and staples etc. The 'restorer' has tried to disguise the breakages with gold coloured paint, the jar and cover (with the lot number sticker on) the cover has been in two or three pieces and has been repaired not very well, there is a one cm piece of the lid away around the rim. The jar itself looks in reasonable order although there is a three cm 'crack' which in the Auctioneers view is a firing crack. The other jar and cover has a 2cm piece away from the edge of the lip, the very top of the pointed finial is also away (matchhead size) and similarly so the actual vase is in good overall original condition.
A variety of mainly silver spoons (some silver plate): enamelled preserve spoons, teaspoons, coffee spoons etc. To include an early 20th century hallmarked silver example with enamelled finial in the Liberty style. Together with a pair of late 19th century green-glass and silver-overlaid scent bottles (both with damage).
A pair of mid-18th century hallmarked silver circular salts and a later Dutch silver spoon. The salts with tripod legs, maker's mark I.W. and London 1759 assay mark. The spoon with a windmill-style finial, turning rudders and its bowl decorated in repoussé with an interior scene of a woman sitting at a spinning wheel (22cm) (3)

A very fine and large mid-19th century hallmarked silver claret / wine jug. The lid with cast finial modelled as oak leaves and acorn husks above a single leaf. Elongated swan-neck-style handle with bone insulators. The main body very finely engraved with a seated Classical-style male figure holding a cleaver-type instrument aloft. Large central oval (vacant) cartouche. Elaborate foliate engraving with various fruits and two opposing birds amongst branches flanking. The spreading circular foot similarly engraved. Maker's mark of Martin Hall & Co., assayed Sheffield 1859 (34.5cm high to tip of thumbpiece, approx. 713g)

A George III silver argyle, cylindrical form with reeded rim and relief embossed foliate decoration with pineapple finial and turned wood handle, no liner, by Aaron Lestourgeon, indistinct hallmarks, height 11cm, 6.9ozArgyle is worn all over and mainly on high points of decoration with a few small dents and a slightly bent edge on lid rim, there is no hot water liner and there seem to have been a few other amendments such as a repaired top part of handle where it meets the body and also a small area of solder around the top rim, there are two splits starting to occur around the top rim and the spout has a solder repair at the base along with a couple of small dents to the spout end, hallmarks very rubbed.

Imperial German Jager Battalion Nr9 Deluxe Presentation Hunting Hanger Grouping, fine example of a hunting hanger with stag horn grip having three plain oval stud fittings, brass pommel with acorn finial. “S” shaped guard in the form of Deer’s hoofs and a clamshell guard with white metal Garde regiments starburst. Housed in its leather and brass mounted scabbard, missing the skinning knife which would have once been present. The hanger has a later added blade which has an artificial Damascus decoration and gilt presentation inscription “Dem Gefreiten Pilch gewidmet vom Lauenburgischen Jagerbataillon Nr9 15. August 1925”, reverse side of the blade has a gilt signature. Accompanying the hanger is a fine quality gilt metal regimental badge commemorating 100 years of the unit, mounted onto a white silk ribbon backing and housed in a glazed frame; Regimental history of the unit during WW1; regimental history of the unit 1866 to 1897; framed citation for the award of the hunting hanger, awarded to Pilch, dated 15th August 1925; large pre-WW1 regimental photograph album with gilt tooled cover having regimental details, good black and white photographs of officers and enlisted ranks of the regiment, some wearing the Jager shakos. Good set.
