An SB 18 bore flintlock sporting gun c 1800, 50½” overall, half octagonal barrel 35” with gold lines at breech and gold touch hole (all possibly replaced); the flat stepped lock having French style cock, rainproof pan and roller on frizzen spring, plate with oval gold escutcheon engraved (probably at a later date) “EGG” in copper plate script; walnut halfstock with chequered wrist; steel mounts including scrolled trigger guard engraved with game bird and with pineapple finial. GWO & generally GC (slightly worn overall, barrel heavily refinished, fore end cap and piece of fore end missing, with a crude steel ramrod.) See inside back cover
A steel barrelled flintlock blunderbuss with spring bayonet, by Theops. Richards, c 1800, 30” overall, the plain swamped barrel 14” secured by two flat wedges, with Tower private proofs and stamped “Theops. Richards”,12½” top spring bayonet released by thumb catch on the breech tang; flat line engraved signed lock having swan neck cock and roller on the frizzen spring; fullstocked with brass mounts, trigger guard with acorn finial; with horn tipped ramrod. Good Working Order and Condition (the barrel and bayonet lightly pitted overall, the fore end chipped) Plate 28 Note: Theops. Richards (working 1790 - 1830) had shops in London and Birmingham, and made coaching and duelling pistols, blunderbusses with spring bayonets, and muskets under Government contract.
A good quality double barrelled 30 bore flintlock sporting gun, by W Mills, London, c 1820, 45” overall, rebrowned twist barrels 29½” with 2 gold lines and gold maker’s poincons at breech, top rib engraved “Gun-Maker-to-his-Royal-Highness-the-Prince-of-Wales”; signed stepped locks finely engraved with fern tip borders, scrolls and flower heads, and having rainproof pans and rollers on frizzen springs; figured ash (?) halfstock having chequered wrist, silver barrel wedge plates and blued steel mounts including large trigger guard engraved with game birds in foliage and with pineapple finial, and foliate engraved butt plate tang; horn tipped ramrod having brass mounted concealed worm. Near Very Good Working Order and Condition, the locks crisp and retaining some colour hardened finish (small crack in the stock below one lock). Plate 25
A high quality hilted early 19th century Indian sword tulwar, curved fullered blade 32½”, from a 1796 pattern light cavalry officers sword, etched with crowned GR cypher, mythical beasts, trophies and flourishes, steel hilt of traditional form with long langets, domed crossguard finials, knucklebow with ornamental finial, disc pommel and pierced top mount, finely bordered overall with gold damascene panels of stylized flowers and foliage, in its leather covered scabbard with blackened steel chape and 2 bands, with belt loop, all bordered with stylized gold damascene foliate patterns. A fine quality double barrelled 12 bore percussion sporting gun, by R Ancell of Perth, 48” overall, well rebrowned twist barrels 32”, top rib engraved in Gothic script “R Ancell, George Street, Perth”, and engraved with a capercaillie at the breech; breech tang engraved with scrolls and vignette of a partridge; locks finely engraved with beaded borders, scrolls and scenes of partridges and curlews in heathland setting; long nosed hammers engraved with serpent heads and scrolls; walnut halfstock having chequered wrist and steel mounts, trigger guard and finial engraved with lapwings and partridge, the butt plate tang with a heron in reeds; with original brass mounted ebony ramrod. Ancell, George Street, Perth”; breech tang engraved with scrolls and vignette of a partridge in undergrowth; signed back action locks finely engraved with beaded borders and scenes of pheasants and lapwings in a heathland setting, unusual long nosed hammers of serpentine form; dark walnut halfstock having chequered wrist (worn) and steel mounts, trigger guard and finial engraved with capercaillie and other game birds, the butt plate tang with a heron in reeds; brass mounted ramrod having concealed worm. A Victorian lilac jasperware cheese bell, decorated with cherubs playing musical instruments, with acorn finial, 26cm diameter x 22cm high CONDITION REPORT: Lid - Large chip to rim. Top of acorn finial with small chips. Three heads of putti lacking along with other small losses and some small firing cracks. Base - Chip and crack to top rim. Staining to centre of base and small losses to decoration.

A Superb German Carved Coqvilla Nutmeg Grater of acorn form, the screw off lid with notched edge, above a diagonal diapering surmounted by a turned knop finial opening to an ivory mounted screw out steel grater. The lower section ending in a turned finial. Condition overall excellent and complete. 2.5 inches high.
Sheffield Interest - A Hallmarked Silver Presentation Bell Relating to Mr William Kean, General Secretary of The National Union of Gold, Silver & Allied Trades, Later President of The T.U.C. 1934/1935, Martin Hall & Co, Sheffield 1935, "Presented to W. Kean, President, by British Trades Union Congress Margate September 1935", bearing the Margate Coat of Arms, the National Union of Gold, Silver & Allied Trades badge and T.U.C. Labour emblem, with Corinthian column handle and figural finial, 39cms high, 1040grams, raised on black socle base, under tall glass dome (damaged), overall height 47cms; Together with An Illuminated Address to Mr William Kean O.B.E., J.P., and Associated Ephemera. *Born in Sheffield, Kean became a cutler working in silver and a trade unionist. By his early twenties he was secretary of the small Sheffield based Spoon and Fork Filers, Odd Workers and Stampers Society, from this position, he masterminded a merger of several small unions which formed the National Union of Gold, Silver and Allied Trades (NUGSAT), completed in 1911, and became its first secretary. In 1921, Kean was elected to the General Council of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), remaining in place until 1945, having served as President 1934/1935. He died in 1954.
