A silver three piece facetted oval tea service by Carrington & Co., London 1938, Registration no. 672046, with turned ebony finial and black composite handle, engraved with a crest including motto ‘Lamh Laidir An Uachtar’, presentation inscription on the tea pot base to ‘The Hon. Fionn O’Brien on his marriage from the employers of Dromolund Estate, 22 June1939’, the tea pot 27cm (10 1/2in) long, 1063g (34.2 oz) gross. The crest and motto of O’Brien of Thomond, one of the few native Irish families with a peerage. The Hon. Fionn Myles Maryons O’Brien (1903-1977) married Josephine Reaine Bembarton. He was educated at Radley and Loughborough Colleges and served as F/Lt. in the RAFVR 1941-45. Their son, Conor (b.1943) 18th Baron of Inchiquin, is the current Chief of the Name of O’Brien of Thomond and Prince of Thomond.
The coronation coronet and robe of a baron, comprising: a silver parcel gilt baron’s coronet, maker’s mark ‘IP’ (not traced), London 1901, with six silver balls above a cable band with arcading and a matted ground, trimmed with fur and lined with a red velvet cap of maintenance with a gold braid finial, the ring 19.5cm (7 3/4in) diameter, in a card box with a later red dust bag; and the corresponding fur trimmed red velvet robe. Made for the coronation of Edward VII on the 9th August 1902. Latterly the property of Savile Brinton Crossley, 1st Baron Somerleyton GCVO, PC (1857-1935), known as Sir Savile Crossley, Bt, from 1872 to 1916, was a British Liberal Unionist politician who served as Paymaster General from 1902 to 1905 (according to an address on the card box). Thence Roger Mellor Makins, 1st Baron Sherfield, GCB, GCMG, FRS (1904-1996), who was a diplomat serving as British Ambassador to the United States from 1953 to 1956. Thence by descent.

An open book is recorded as a crest for the Scottish families: DALGLEISH, DUNBAR, FORBES, GARDEN, GRANT, HAMILTON, MENZIES, POLLOCK, ROUE, UMPHREY and WARNER.In this case the open book is the crest of the Grants of Monymusk, the vendor`s mother was the daughter of Sir Francis Grant, 10th Baronet.
