10th-16th century AD. A mixed group comprising: a scabbard chape with knop finial; a bronze scabbard mount with circumferential bands; a bronze harness ring; a bronze penannular bracelet; a bronze beast-head finial; an iron arrowhead with tang; an iron arrowhead with socket; three bronze flat-section fragments; a bronze brooch pin; a lead Oceanus mount. 379 grams total, 37-101mm (1 1/2 - 4"). 6th-2nd century B.C. A matched group of three bronze knife money pieces, each a flat-section rectangular blade with angled ribbed handle and loop finial. 51 grams total, 13.5cm average (5 1/4"). See ATEC 2, 4958-4977. Knife money has its origins in the scraper-knives of nomadic hunters and fishermen of northern and eastern China; by the sixth and fifth centuries BC the northern and eastern states of Yan, Qi, Zhongshan and Zhao were using knife money with inscriptions. The inscriptions were usually numerals or single words such as 'fish' and 'sheep', perhaps indicating value. [3, No Reserve] Fine condition.
10th-13th century AD. A pair of bronze steelyard weights or plumb-bobs comprising: one piriform with pierced trefoil finial, scrolled foliage detail to the two broad faces; one similar, hexagonal in section, ring-and-dot motifs. 78 grams total, 39 - 46mm (1 1/2 - 1 3/4"). A tall candelabrum with square-section base and claw feet, marble socket and bulbous stem, six radiating arms each attached at two points, with complex scrolled profile and floral socket; stem with black hardstone bulb and scrolled acanthus-leaf finial; the base and arms with polychrome art nouveau champ-levé enamel; probably French workmanship. 6.5 kilograms, 55.5cm (22").
