A Meissen porcelain teapot and cover of quadrilobed form with wishbone handle, the body reserved with two landscape panels, one with figures seated by a stream with a monument beyond, the other with a man pushing a lady on a chair/sledge across a frozen lake, the turquoise ground painted with floral sprays all within gilt scale and foliate borders, purple 44 mark, 12.5 cm. high, later metal spout and chain attachments, damage to finial. * Provenance Probably acquired from Hugo Helbing (1863-1938) of Munich, a prominent art dealer in the early 20th Century. Helbing was arrested in the Kristallnacht and beaten and died of his injuries on the 30th November 1938.

frodsham, London a brass inlaid rosewood bracket clock the eight-day duration, double fusee, five pillar movement striking the hours on a bell, the backplate engraved ‘Frodsham, Gracechurch Street, London’, the eight-inch round convex painted dial with black Roman numerals, brass ‘moon’ hands and signed ‘Frodsham, London’, the rosewood case with brass inlaid decoration to the front, lower frieze and base, canted corners, brass fishscale side frets, floral side handles and brass ball feet, with the chamfer top surmounted by a brass pineapple finial, height 52cm. * John Frodsham, born 1781, is recorded as working as a watch, clock and chronometer maker at 33, Gracechurch Street, London moving there in 1825 having taken over the firm following the death of his father William Frodsham in 1805 and his grandfather, also William, in 1807. He was made a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Clockmakers in 1830 with the firm becoming Frodsham & Sons between 1835 and his death in 1849, the sons being Henry John who was apprenticed to him, and George Edward who was John Frodsham’s successor.
emmanuel Hopperton, Leeds, an oak and walnut longcase clock the eight-day duration movement striking the hours on a bell with an inside countwheel, the twelve-inch brass break-arch dial having a raised chapter ring engraved with black Roman numerals, Arabic five-minute numerals and flame half-hour markings, with cast brass female-head corner spandrels, with a date aperture to the matted centre and decorative blued steel hands, the arch with dolphin spandrels and a roundel engraved with the maker’s name ‘Emmanuel Hopperton, Leeds’, the oak case with walnut veneer to the door and hood, with a raised panel to the base, shaped top to the trunk door, a break arch hood with brass finials to the blocks and three-quarter columns, height 240, inc. finial. * Emmanuel Hopperton, born 1705, is recorded as working in Mill Hill, Leeds from circa 1720 until his death in 1753. A number of longcases are recorded with walnut veneer used as decoration on an oak case as in this example.

Dmitriyev, maker`s mark possibly CMP, St. Petersburg 1850, inverted pear form, lobed decoration with chased motifs on a matted background, the body mounted with four horse`s heads, the pull-off cover with a finial modelled as a seated Russian gentleman in traditional dress, on a hard stone base, height off plinth 38cm, approx. weight 26oz.

A George IV silver teapot, by Edward Farrell, London 1822, tapering circular form, chased and applied with tavern scenes in the manner of Teniers, mythical beast head spout, the hinged cover with a figural finial of a man pouring beer from a barrel, scroll handle, on four figural bracket feet, length handle to spout 25.3cm, approx. weight 33oz.
A George II provincial silver chocolate pot, marked RM with a crown above, possibly acting as a retailer, Exeter 1742-43, tapering circular form, leaf and foliate capped spout, leaf capped scroll handle, domed hinged cover with a removable acorn shaped finial, (unmarked), on a raised circular foot, the underside scratch initialled `R*C` `43`, `E.S` and `25oz: 10`, height 23cm, approx. weight 25.5oz. We would like to thank Tim Kent for his assistance in identifying the date letter, which is a variation to the usual 1742-43 mark.
A Victorian silver entree dish and cover, by Robert Garrard, London 1865, oval form, fluted scroll handles, chased foliate borders on a matted background, the pull-off cover applied with two classical oval cartouches of cupids, and with a fluted finial, beaded borders, engraved with a crest, length handle to handle 35.5cm, approx. weight 45oz.
A Victorian electroplated argyle, by Thomas Bradbury and Sons, plain cylindrical form, scroll handle, flush-hinged cover with a knop finial, the water compartment with a hinged cover, engraved with two crests, height 11cm. The crest and motto is that of Hanbury, the crest is that of Balfour, Budd, Fortesue and other families.

The Birmingham Assay Office opened in 1773.
