The body decorated with two shaped panels pierced and carved in high relief and worked in bright enamels and silver wire with a rooster and hen amid leafy chrysanthemums and peony to one side and two butterflies fluttering amid chrysanthemums and aster to the other, the cover similarly decorated with a single beatle amid chrysanthemum, prunus blossoms, and other flowers. A SUPERB AND LARGE IVORY TUSK BOX AND COVER DEPICTING A TIGER AND DRAGONSUnsignedJapan, late 19th century, Meiji period (1868-1912)Of oval form, the sides intricately carved in relief and openwork with five ferocious three-clawed dragons with sinuous scaly bodies, neatly incised curled manes, and eyes inlaid with mother-of-pearl, writhing amid thick swirling clouds. The cover is similarly carved with a sixth dragon writhing around the finial in the form of a majestic tiger seated on its haunches, the animal well detailed with long tail, finely incised fur, and alert expression. The flat base is separately carved and incised around the central nerve channel plug with a foliate design.HEIGHT 25.7 cmCondition: Very good condition, minor wear, the plug to the base lost, one eye inlay lost.Provenance: From the collection of Gaston Lazard (1878-1956) and his wife Jane Levy (1886-1985) and thence by descent within the same family.The tiger and dragon both have important meanings in Buddhist and Taoist philosophy, together representing the yin and yang, the earth and sky, or the male and female. An Arts & Crafts style hallmarked silver pedestal rose style bowl: the cover with rose finial centring pointed leaves and above a hand-planished body with spreading circular foot, maker's mark G.W., assayed London 1968 (11cm diameter, approx. 381g)Condition Report: the top is hallmarked with the lion passant and the year letter, the bowl is hallmarked with the maker's mark, lion passant, leopard's head and the year letter. It is a little bit grubby and tarnished. No major problems reported. The full height is approx. 12.5cm with lid on.
A George V cut and engraved glass powder-bowl with silver lid: the bun-shaped bowl decorated with leafy scrolls and engraved flowers, printie-cut rim, the engine-turned silver cover with knop finial and gilt-washed underside. (12.5 cm high). Condition: Marks good, silver and glass in good condition. No faults.
A large pair of 19th century basalt urn vases in neoclassical style: the reticulated covers with bud finials above Pharaoh-style mask handles interconnected with harebell swags, raised on square plinth bases, apparently unmarked. (38 cm high)* Condition report: One vase has a very small chip to the edge of the base, a small firing crack just below the shoulder to one side and a tiny firing crack below the chin on both mask handles. There is also a shallow chip beneath the edge of the cover. The second vase has an old glued repair to the cover finial, which has been off. The vase has several small firing cracks to the underside of the base and another larger firing crack to one side of the base, with a tiny chip to the edge on the same side. There is also a noticeable firing crack beneath the chin and to the nose on one of the mask handles.
A 19th century gilt-metal-mounted and rouge variegated marble urn and cover: the domed cover surmounted with a pineapple finial and above two large and elaborate ram's heads in Robert Adams style and connected by a further gilt-metal reticulated band of leaves and berries; the base similarly cast with gilt-metal acanthus leaves above a scrolling circular fluted foot leading to a wreath band; red marble base with concave corners and a beaded moulding (48 cm highest x 27.5 cm widest)
A 19th century French gilt-metal-cased eight-day mantle clock in Louis XVI style. The two-handled classical-style urn finial above a 7.5 cm white-enamel dial signed Planchon à Paris, with Roman numerals and five-minute Arabic markers, further over two swags and a glazed aperture revealing sunburst-style cast pendulum headed with a mask, the movement individually numbered 605 and signed 'Planchon - Paris'. (33.5cm high) Mathieu Planchon (1842-1921) was apprenticed to his father and subsequently worked for several of the leading French makers including Robert-Houdin and Philippe prior to setting up business in 1880 at Palais Royale, Paris. He specialised in high-end novelty clocks and various imaginative recreations of Renaissance and other historic models.

A good pair of 19th century cut glass covered bonbonnières, possibly Voneche, of urn form and with Monteith rim, petal cut decoration, cut baluster stem and hexagonal foot. The high domed cover with witch's hat finial.(32.5 cm high).2. A 20th century covered bonbonnière with cut scroll and foliate decoration to the jar and cover, on a stepped square base. (31.5 cm high). Condition- Pair: One with five small chips to rim and chip to edge of cover. The other with one large and four small chips to rim and small chips and fritting to edge of cover.- Single: Small chip to top of vase. Otherwise good.

A PAIR OF FINE GEORGE IV SHAPED SILVER ENTREE DISHESLondon c.1829, maker's mark of J.E. Terry. the domed lobbed corners with prominent fruiting vine finials and richly chased with foliage, engraved with crest and armorials, on conforming base, and with scratch mark 74.6ozs, the other with scratch mark 73.17, each hallmarked on body, lid and finial (c.148 troy ozs all in). Each 35 x 26cmCondition Report: Both examples in very good condition. The covers, dishes and finial each clearly hallmarked. The interior reserve of each dish with scratching otherwise very good. The covers are slightly misaligned so not sitting in perfectly.
