A large antique 19th Century Chinese Qing Dynasty Oriental blue and white porcelain temple jar and cover of tall form. The lidded temple jar having Fu Foo dog finial to top with scenes of seated figures and cobalt blue prunus border detailing. The long neck hand painted with staggered leaves of two sizes leading to the top of the body decorated with floral border and bat medallions. The main body depicting an intricate exterior scene with figures and buildings, one figure reading a scroll with four character Kaishu script to the toll. The lower section decorated with blue and white panel border. Condition; chip to the lid on Fo dog tail and repair to lid. Vase itself is in good condition with no visible damage. Measures approx; 41cm tall (34cm without).

William Pybus of Caistor Lincolnshire (1786-1861) - An antique early 19th Century Georgian George III English 8 day / eight day oak and mahogany cased longcase grandfather clock. Turned finial arched pediment top with glazed door, brass reeded columns and door to trunk with inlaid shell boxwood motif. The painted dial having depiction of fisherman to the arch and buildings to corners and a bold black arabic numeral dial, subsidiary seconds dial, aperture and gilt faceted hands. Complete with both weights and pendulum. Measures; 213cm tall dial 12 inches.

A VERY RARE PAIR OF 'PRONK' VASES AND COVERSCirca 1740Each of square section, the tapering body rising from a stepped foot to a tall waisted neck with an everted rim, each face painted with a white and pink floral bloom borne on a leafy branch extended up to the neck, all reserved on a lilac diaper ground, the domed covers similarly decorated and surmounted by a lotus-bud finial. 33.5cm (13 1/4in) high. A RARE FAMILLE ROSE RUBY-RED-GROUND BUDDHIST STUPA18th century The shrine modelled with a shaped niche, finely decorated and gilt with scrolling lotus below monster masks linked by pendent beaded chains, the stupa supported on a square base decorated with alternating bands of lappets and floral scrolls on a ruby-red ground, surmounted by a tiered spire of thirteen graduated Buddhist umbrellas alternating with narrow floral bands, crowned with a later cloisonné enamel canopy and finial decorated with Buddhist symbols, lotus blossoms and musical chimes. 44cm (17 1/2in) high. (3).Footnotes:十八世紀 胭脂紅地粉彩纏枝紋佛塔Symbolic of nirvana, stupas represent the past and the present, and were originally memorial monuments built over the mortal remains of Buddha Shakyamuni and other important figures. The square base, for example, is Tibetan in style and represents Mount Sumeru, while the rounded dome is Indian in origin. An impressive and finely inlaid iron vase and cover with historical scenesBy the Komai Company of Kyoto, Meiji era (1868-1912), late 19th/early 20th centuryDecorated with gold nunome damascene overlay and silver details, the flattened-spherical body with a tall foot resting on a stand with four lobed feet, silvered elephant-head handles to either side each with a pendant chain including lobed floral ornaments and a bell-like finial, the hemispherical cover surmounted by a shishi (Chinese mythological lion dog), each side of the body with a silver-rimmed lobed panel, on one side a night scene of a seated Buddhist monk/samurai with his armour chest and tachi behind him, writing brush in hand, facing a helmet-less samurai also holding writing materials, behind them a nomaku (field curtain) emblazoned with three Uesugi-sasa mon (Bamboo-and-sparrow crests, see below) and an overhanging pine tree, the scene illuminated by two kagari (braziers), on the other side a related scene, in a different location, of two samurai in mortal combat, scattered sakazuki (sake cups) at their feet, one holding a long yari which the other parries with his left hand while brandishing a tachi in his right, the surrounding surfaces with typical Komai dense ground decoration including ho-o birds, peony scrolls, key fret, floral medallions, birds and creepers, vine leaves and scrolls, chrysanthemum mon (crests), katabami mon (woodsorrel crests), butterflies and other motifs, signed underneath in gold in seal form Nihonkoku Kyoto no ju Komai sei (Manufactured by Komai of Kyoto in Japan). 17.5cm x 12cm x 29cm (6 7/8in x 4¾in x 11 7/16in). (2).Footnotes:The decoration on large-scale Komai work often incorporates detailed, complex narrative scenes based on recent or contemporary woodblock-printed sources. Although the precise source has yet to be identified, this is likely the case with the present lot, whose lobed panels depict two, probably linked, scenes from the civil wars that ravaged Japan in the second half of the sixteenth century. The large mon (crest) with two confronted sparrows and leaves of bamboo grass, shown three times on the nomaku (field curtain) behind the senior figure in the more peaceful scene, is that of Uesugi Kenshin (1530-1578), one of the most powerful warlords of the day; he was renowned for his Buddhist piety and devotion to Bishamon, the Buddhist God of War, which may explain his appearance here in the garb of a monk. As described by Captain Dugald Malcolm in the foreword to the 1977 Sotheby's catalogue, his father Sir Neill Malcolm first went to China in 1896. Starting from Leh in Kashmir, the journey to Beijing took seven months. His first purchases were made in Berlin in 1919 and then later when he served in Singapore (1921-1924). Between the First and Second World Wars he visited Beijing a number of times and made a few purchases, although the bulk of the collecting took place in London. Sir Neill Malcolm was a member of the Executive Committee of the 1935-1936 Exhibition at the Royal Academy and lent 16 pieces himself. AN ARCHAIC BRONZE RITUAL FOOD VESSEL AND COVER, DOUEastern Zhou DynastyThe bowl raised on a high stem, the body cast with stylised dragons beneath two bands of densely arranged S-scrolls, the sides set with a pair of loop handles, the same design repeated on the cover surrounding the everted finial decorated with interlacing designs, the pale green patina with scattered malachite encrustations. 20cm (8in) high.Footnotes:東周 青銅蟠虺紋豆Provenance: an important European private collection來源:歐洲重要私人收藏Crisply cast in low relief with interlacing designs of repeated minuscule units, each composed of a diagonal braid with C-designs in its upper left and right corners, the present vessel is a fine example of grain receptacles used in ritual performances to worship the ancestors during the Eastern Zhou Period (771-256 BC).The origin of the dou can be traced back to the shallow pottery tazza of the Longshan culture during the late Neolithic Period. The form continued to be in common use throughout the Shang and Zhou dynasties. It was in the Western Zhou period that attempts were made to embellish the simple pottery form by fashioning it from lacquer over a wood core, or casting it in bronze.Bronze versions of the dou vessel, such as the present example, the standard shape being shallow bowls with straight vertical sides rising from tall pedestal feet, are likely to have developed during the Western Zhou period (1047-772 BC). Archaeological excavations suggest that the further refinement of the domed lid and the lug handles were added to the vessel at the beginning of the Eastern Zhou period. During the Eastern Zhou dynasty, dou vessels gradually replaced their gui counterpart to become the most essential grain containers in a ritual vessel set; see J.So, Eastern Zhou Ritual Bronzes in the Arthur M. The Mughal Empire in India (1526-1857) left a legacy of high-quality worked jades. The Qianlong emperor greatly admired the so-called 'Hindustan' jades, and in 1768, he wrote the Tianzhu wuyindu kaoe, a scholarly text on the geography of Hindustan and the derivation of its name. The area he identified was in what is today India, with the city of Agra at its centre. During the eighteenth century, this area was part of the Mughal Empire and thus the jades from this region are today often referred to as 'Mughal' jades. The decoration of the present vessel may have been inspired by Emperor Jahangir's visit to the beautiful flower-filled valleys of Kashmir in 1620, which prompted the introduction of a new style of drawing on botanical designs.Compare with a related jade ewer, 17th/18th century, in the collection of the National Palace Museum, Taipei, illustrated in Exquisite Beauty - Islamic Jades, Taipei, 2007, pl.96.
