(2)Provenance: purchased from Max Rosenheim in August 1894 and thence by descent. By repute, previously in a schloss in Bad Kissingen, Bavaria, occupied by Otto von Bismarck.Cf. A Sèvres triple jam pot on a fixed triangular stand (plateau à trois pots de confiture), date code for 1787, from the Montmorin service, painted by Massy with a band of fuchsia between pale blue borders enclosing gilt foliate designs, blue interlaced LL mark enclosing date letters KK, painter's mark, one finial restored, 22cm across. (4)The Montmorin service was made for Armand-Marc Comte de Montmarin-Saint-Hérem and was delivered on 24th May 1787. Much of it was purchased by Thomas, 2nd Marquess of Bath, and was sold at Christie's in 2002 as part of the contents from Longleat. Four plateaux à trois pots were included in the original service. A Meissen porcelain yellow-ground part tea-service, c.1740-50, blue crossed swords marks, Pressnummern, the ground reserved with quatrefoil panels painted with scattered sprays and bouquets of deutsche Blumen within ombrierte gilt band cartouches, comprising: a sugar-bowl and domed cover, the cover with a seed-pod finial, two teacups, the interiors with flower-sprays, and two saucers, the undersides yellow-ground, the upper sides painted with flowers, the sugar-bowl 12cm high, 12.5cm diameter (6)Provenance: Adolphe Gautier, according to the paper collection label attached to the underside of the sugar-bowl.The Property of John Kenworthy-Browne FSA.Condition Report: Apart from the condition faults (listed in more detail below) overall the condition is good and the pieces are bright and fresh in appearance. In more detail: Sugar-bowl: There is a very small and minor restored chip to the tip of the pod finial. There is a minute flake to the yellow ground which is also very minor. Cups: The handle of one cup has two hairline cracks which may indicate that a section of it has been restuck (it is difficult to see if this is definitely the case). The other cup has a hairline crack from the rim adjacent to the handle (with an associated minute flake to the yellow ground), and a further short hairline crack from the rim near one of the cartouches both of these are very fine and very difficult to see. There are some very slight areas of wear to the gilt rims. Saucers: There are some minute areas of wear to the enamels of the flowers. There are some very slight areas of wear to the gilt rims.

An Italian Pietra Dura panel of a Venetian capriccio, 19th century, inlaid in various hardstones, with an arcaded building, obelisk and various figures, in a gilt-bronze frame, 33 x 40.5cm, 42 x 49.5cm overallCondition Report: One hairline crack across the blue sky from the finial of the building through to the wood rod to the left of the scene. A few light marks to the surface that do not detract from the overall visual appeal of the panel. The frame with small nicks and light wear and rubbing to gilding. The reverse of the frame with general knocks and scratches, several drill holes, the back board with a couple of cracks and signs of old woodworm, the iron bar framing device intact. The back has been removed to inspect the verso but the panel has not been removed from the frame. The reverse of the panel is not inscribed.

A Swiss walnut 'Britannia' upright music box, late 19th century, the double steel comb movement marked THE BRITANNIA STE CROIX SWITZERLAND STAR SILVER DEPOT LONDON, the interior numbered in gilt REGD 370.254., the mechanical movement encased within a glazed cover, the case with mahogany turned finials flanking a timepiece with enamel Arabic dial, above carved scrolling foliate fretwork frieze and hinged doors with painted Britannia and the Royal Coat of Arms, on plinth base, with winder, approx. 67.5cm high, 42.5cm wide, 25.1cm deep, together with a library unit box containing twelve discs, and a Christie's purchase receipt, 1989Provenance: previously Christie's South Kensington, lot 209, November 1989Please note that Roseberys do not guarantee the working order of any mechanical music box.Condition Report: The case with wear consistent with age and use, comprising knocks, scratches, splits, chips to veneer and scratches to ebonised areas, to include: the top with chips to veneer and knocks and chips to edges. The doors with warping, chips and discolouration. The sides with discolouration and minor splits. The base with knocks, chips and scratches and ebonsied moulding with losses and scratches. The interior with splits and scratches. The glass with scratches. The teeth and teeth tips appear intact. The reverse with a large vertical crack and other minor splits. One of the feet has been damaged and repaired, the others with wear. The top appears to have had a larger superstructure which was attached by brackets to the upper section of the reverse of the case. The current finial with clock to centre may have been part of this. The clock is loose within and with wear. It is currently in working order when wound. It does not stop at the end of the tune. The discs are scratches, dented and with some rusting. The library unit box is worn with some tearing to leaves.

A George III inlaid mahogany longcase clock, late 18th century, the elaborate broken swan neck pediment with urn finials above gilt scrolling foliate painted glass frieze dated 1787, having reeded Corinthian columns with brass capitals, the trunk with satinwood paterae above moulded Gothic style door flanked by cluster columns, on crossbanded plinth with corresponding columns on ogee bracket feet, the arched painted dial signed SAML COLLIER ECCLES, with Roman and Arabic numerals, subsidiary seconds dial at twelve, date aperture to centre and rolling moon phase dial to arch, the dial centre painted with a shepherd and his lover, the eight day movement striking a bell, with pendulum and weights, 256cm highProvenance: Property from the estate of the late David Cornwell, best-known as the author John le Carré.Please note that Roseberys do not guarantee the working order or time keeping of any timepiece.Condition Report: Case: With wear consistent with age and use, to include knocks, scratches, splits and wear. The top with left finial detached but present and split to left side. Knocks and chips to cornice. Cracks and scratches to painted glass frieze. Left column is not sitting straight and has split and minor chips to base. Both columns with minor knocks and scratches and minor tarnishing to caps. Right side of hood has restored vertical splits, the left side with general scratching and restored patch to moulding. Chips and splits to seat board and some nails to case under seat board. Door with splits to veneer and with wooden block glued to frame behind door on lower left and splits to top right. The dental frieze underneath the hood with one missing tooth to the left side and one missing to right side. Trunk with minor discolouration to both sides, splits and warping to right side and minor chips to edges, lifting and minor chip to veneer above door. Door does not sit fully flush and with split to the right of the lower hinge. Plinth base with knocks to moulding, splits and warping to front and minor discolouration to sides. Left moulding has been re-glued as has one of the feet. The other feet with some wear. Backboard to case with holes, large cracks repaired with strip of cloth, and with replaced board to top and bottom sections. Dial: Craquelure and minor losses to paint. Chips to paint to dial edges. Minor rubbing to numerals. Some surface scratching. Tarnishing and bending to hands.Movement: Some scratches to backplate. Pendulum guide slightly bent. Tarnishing and bending to pendulum. Knocks and rusting to weights.Please note that Roseberys do not guarantee the working order or time keeping of any timepiece.

A limited edition Britannia silver twin-handled cup and cover, by Garrard & Co., London, 2002, with jubilee mark, the cover and base numbered 18/50, the plain circular body raised on stepped circular foot designed with cast gilt handles to either side, one modelled as a lion rampant, the other as a unicorn, the cover with gilt crown finial and commemorative engraving reading ' to commemorate the Golden Jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, 1952-2002', with signed box, approx. 10.5cm high, 10.7cm dia., width (inc. handles approx. 16.5cm, approx. weight 20.4ozCondition Report: The cup (and cover) is in good condition. Only some very minor surface scratching noted. Some tarnish to the gilding in places (crown finial in particular). No repairs or damage noted. Box in good overall condition. Some sticky dirt to lid and some wear to corners and edges in particular.  Overall a nice piece in good condition.

A Charles II-style silver porringer and cover, London 1897, William Gibson & John Lawrence Langman (Goldsmiths Co.), of bellied, circular form, designed with running unicorn, lion and floral decoration to body and cover, the beaded scroll handles with figural thumbpieces, approx. 16.5cm high, approx. weight 23ozProvenance: Property from the estate of the late David Cornwell, best-known as the author John le Carré.Condition Report: Good condition commensurate with age. Some minor scratching and nicking to body and cover. Finial pushing into cover slightly. Dings to inner rim of cover. Some bruising and a seam visible to ball atop finial. No repairs noted. Two slightly textured marks to body (above unicorn). Maker's mark to body slightly rubbed (but visible). Some nicks to rim of body.

A George II silver coffee pot, London, 1757, probably Thomas Whipham & Charles Wright, of elongated baluster form with hinged cover and foliate tipped spout, approx. 25cm high, approx. weight 25.5ozProvenance: Works of Art from the Schroder Collection.Condition Report: Approx. 7.25 inches from top of spout to top of handle. The coffee pot is in good condition commensurate with age. Some general surface scratching, nicking and minor pitting noted. Hallmarks rubbed (but date letter visible). Small patch beneath handle. Handle probably later. Some splits and discoloration noted to handle  and upper pin pushed through slightly.  Ding to foot (out of round). Small repair to hinge area. Cover sits very slightly raised. Some light wear to finial. Some light tarnish in places. Overall a nice piece.

A collection of six carousels, comprising: one by Gill Murkin, painted wood, ribbon, with an elephant, seal and clown perform on a rotating platform, approx. 42.5cm high; one by Robert Baldry, wood, string, with six ducks on a rotating platform, approx. 49.5cm high; one by Fred Bonan, painted wood, twine, with four white and yellow painted ducks, marked POPS to underside, approx. 35.5cm high; another by J Sawyer, wood, painted wood, ribbon, with simple cut-outs of animals, approx. 31cm high; one designed by Sevi, Italy, made in Sri Lanka, coloured wood, cord, with four clowns suspended by four cords from the top of the central pillar, with printed Sevi label, in original box, 27cm high; and a Czechoslovakian example, wood, coloured wood, string, with four clowns, approx. 26.5cm high (6) Sir Nicholas Goodison noted: Gill Murkin Carousel: As in all carousels of this type, the platform on which the elephant, seal and clown perform is suspended by the ribbons. Rotating it winds the ribbons round the post, from the top of which the ringmaster directs the performance. As the ribbons unwind the platform rotates in the opposite direction, and continues to rotate backwards and forwards under the momentum imparted by the winding and unwinding of the ribbons until it comes to rest. Roseberys do not guarantee the working order of any automata or toy. Condition Report: The carousel by Sevi - one of the clowns hang a little loose and falls towards the middle of the carousel.  The Czech carousel with four clowns missing a finial to the top of the central column.The Robert Baldry carousel with a screw to the top of the central column which is a little crude and looks like it could be a replacement.The J Sawyer carousel with two spots of red paint to the central column,Overall, all the carousels are currently in working order with very minor wear consistent with use.Roseberys do not guarantee the working order of any automata or toy.

Two George III silver casters, one London, 1774, Thomas Shepherd, the other London, 1773, Thomas Daniell, both of small, baluster form, one engraved with crest, the other with the initial 'P', both 13.7cm high, total weight approx. 5.6oz (2)Condition Report: Both casters are in good condition commensurate with age. Some general surface scratching and minor pitting and nicking to both. Crest and initial both crisp - probably later. Some wear to chasing on both pierced caps. Marks to Thomas Daniell caster clear to cap and underside of foot. Some small dings to foot of this example and minor bruising to body. Cap fits snugly. Some bruising and a tiny split noted to finial under 10x magnification.  Marks to cap of Shepherd example slightly rubbed (but legible). Marks to underside of foot clear. Piercing in good condition. Some minor bruising to body and foot.

On both sides of the coffee-pot there is some deep scratching/abrasion to the black glaze and to the gilding of the central part of the chinoiserie scenes on the body. There are some minor small flat chips to the underside of the base at one edge and to one corner. Typical slight wear to gilding around upper rim, footrim and spout. The cover with minor wear to gilding on finial tip and around the rim.

Vater Collection of European Ceramics.Photographs: © Christie's ImagesCondition Report: The stand with a 0.3 cm. flat chip to the underside at the rim. The enamels on the painted stand with some wear, mostly in the centre to the pagoda, bridge, tree trunk and middle part of the river. The ecuelle with some minor glaze scratching to the interior and a minute 0.1 cm flat glaze chip to the underside of one of the silvered handles; also a few tiny flakes to the enamels. The cover with very, very fine hairline crack running from rim towards the centre for circa 4 cm. (barely visible) and some very minor wear to the silvering on the top of the finial.

There are two further minute chips to the upper rim. The cover in good order. Some very minor typical scratches to enamels.

The moulded flowering stems decoration with one bud chipped and lacking, two flowers badly chipped and one with a small chip to the petals. Very small chip to lower part of the tip of the spout. Tiny chip to rim of flange of cover. As noted in the catalogue description, the decoration is later and possibly 19th century.

Some surface scratching, nicking and minor pitting noted and some minor dings and bruising to body. Stands steadily on foot. Decoration likely later added. Lid stamped with IK and lion passant. Hallmarks to underside clear. Some splitting and evidence of repairs at hinge join. Small patch to neck near hinge. Some small splits and nicks to handle and some patches of discoloration. Probable small repair to one side of upper handle join. No splits or repairs solder noted to main body. Decoration generally good, some wear to high points in places. Finial sits slightly askew. Overall an attractive coffee pot in good condition commensurate with age.

The small leaf shaped dish with a loss to the rim and a damage impact point. A chip to the rim of one soup bowl, and a small crack and loss to the rim of another. Some loss of glaze to one large rectangular dish. The muffin dish and lid with washed out colours and decoration. One dinner plate with a large crack from rim to well and two very small losses of porcelain to the underside, another with a chip to the rim, two dinner plates with heavy surface dirt and grease. An impact point and crazing to the underside of one side plate, another with a chip to the rim and a hairline crack with very small loss of porcelain. One teacup has been completely broken through and amateurly restored with large crack lines visible. The butterfly dish with a firing crack to the underside. One oval dish with a dirt-filled hairline crack to one section of the footrim. One oval dish with loss of gilding to the rim. A couple of small firing flaws to the footirm of one large oval dish. General surface dirt and light surface wear and light scratching to porcelain from prior use. Cancellation marks present to: one side plate, one dinner plate, two medium plates, the tureen lacking a cover, one large circular scalloped rim dish, two oval serving dishes.
