Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufactures, and Commerce. Premiums..., 48pp., first edition, stitched, uncut, lightly soiled and frayed at edges, [Goldsmiths' 9469], 8vo, 1759.⁂ The Society, now known as the Royal Society of Arts, was founded in 1754 to award "premiums" (cash prizes) to support improvements in the arts and sciences. This is the second of the Society's published list of premiums, which it produced from 1758 until 1780. It describes premiums for achievements as diverse as "sowing the greatest quantity of acorns" to "securing ships bottoms from worms", and several concerning the colonies such as for the cultivation of cochineal in South Carolina, olive trees from south of the Delaware river, raisins, silk in Georgia, Connecticut, Pennsylvania and North Carolina and wine: "As producing Wines in our American colonies will be of great advantage to those colonies, and also to this kingdom, it is proposed to give to that planter, in any of our said colonies, who shall first produce (within seven years from the fifth day of April 1758) from his own plantation, five tons of white or red wine, made of grapes, the produce of the colonies only, and such as in the opinion of competent judges appointed by the society in London, shall be deemed deserving the reward: not less than one ton thereof to be imported at London, 100 l."

1934 Chateau Decelie, Grand CruDomaine Royal Tatoi1 bottle L/S, 1 bottle T/S, 2 bottles M/S4x75clThis 1934 Chateau Decelie was produced at The Greek royal summer residence of Tatoi Palace. The 1934 vintage was produced during the years between the over throw and restoration of the Greek monarchy . These bottles were produced for the French market as "Decelie" is the French translation for Decelea , an ancient suburb of Athens, where Tatoi was situated. With the recent passing of his Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh that has awakened a new interest in the ill-fated Greek Royal family and although Price Philip himself would never visited this estate, his father would have stayed there regularly. I am afraid I have no idea what lies beneath the cork, looking at the beautiful bright amber colour, I suspect they might be a sweet or semi-sweet wine rather than a dry wine. They appear to be in very good condition. Above all these bottles have historical interest and I welcome the new owner to let us know how they are when they come to open them
