[PRINCESS MARGARET]: (1930-2002) Countess of Snowdon, younger sister of Queen Elizabeth II. A.L.S., Snowdon, four pages, 4to, Kensington Palace, 12th March 1973, to Mr Elrick [George], on the stationery of Kensington Palace. Snowdon congratulates is correspondent on the amount of money he has raised and that the donations are to be spent on 'chairmobiles', continuing 'of course they aren't the total solution for those who have to be in a wheelchair… but I hope this helps in a practical and social way (I hate those pieces of ironmongery that at once makes someone look different).' Together with, telegram from Lord Snowdon to George Elrick, 26th November 1973. Snowdon's message reads, in full 'Thank you so much for making me feel so welcome at the dinner last night. I have seldom been in the company of people with such generosity gaiety and of such varied talents. With best wishes and congratulations on your achievements in your year as King Rat.' Also including, A.L.S., Peter Townsend, two pages, 8vo, Buckingham Palace, 23rd February 1951, to Gerald Kelly, on the stationery of Buckingham Palace. Townsend informs his correspondent that the dinner party 'was one of the most delightful evenings I've spent for a long time. You and Jane looked after your guests perfectly… it was a splendid party, food, wine and company and perhaps the last thing of all was your own unconcealed enjoyment of the whole affair.' A papier maché box and cover Iran, late 17th - 18th century Ink and natural pigments highlighted with goldExquisite rectangular box with rounded top and corner feet. The surface is richly ornate with high-relief crème colored lobed cartouches, on a background painted with flowers, birds and animals on a bronze colored iridescent base. The bigger cartouches are miniated with scenes in Safavide style, depicting rural scenes with couples drinking wine or the game of polo. The smaller cartouches are instead decorated with animals and flowers. The edges and the corners are filled with multicolored arabesques.The inside of the lid is finely painted with floral motifs on a red background, while five cartouches with scenes depicting couples are on the exterior side; the base is decorated with similar motifs, though in golden paint on black.The lid underwent a conservative restoration.Cm 40,50 x 26,00 x 30,00 22.00 % buyer's premium on the hammer priceVAT margin scheme, VAT included, but not indicated
