A George V Silver Wine-Bottle or Decanter Coaster, by Omar Ramsden, London, 1926 in the Arts and Crafts style, tapering cylindrical, the lower border with applied foliage, the wood base with applied rose boss, with an overall hammered finish10cm diameterFully marked on lower body, further engraved 'Omar Ramsden Me Fecit'. The marks are generally clear. There is some overall surface scratching and wear, consistent with age and use. There is a slight bruise to the rim and some scratching to the wood base. With leather base underneath which is rather worn and with losses.

Great Western Railway Hotels silverplate large Wine / Champagne ice bucket. Marked with GWR Coat Of Arms and GREAT WESTERN ROYAL HOTEL base marked L & B. In excellent condition measures 9.5in tall x 7.5in diameter. The Great Western Royal Hotel Paddington was opened in 1854 by Prince Albert and is now the Great Western Hotel (Hilton London Paddington). A stunning piece from this Grade 2 listed building.
London & South Western Railway wine waiters corkscrew & bottle opener, the blade engraved S.W.R.Coy.Ltd. and stamped with makers name Joseph Westby Sheffield. Dougal Drummond experimented with the abbreviation S.W.R on tank and tender sides of locos in 1895 and it also appears on some handlamps, probably dating this wine waiters tool to that year as the manufacturer ceased trading in 1896. An unusual item and rare survivor in very good condition and could be used again. Measures 3.5in long.

Provenance: From the Collection of Professor Jonathan Brostoff, D.M., D.Sc., FRCP, FRCPath (1934-2020); A. [?]Méyret (old signature on upper wrapper and front free endpaper); "Agriculture 3070" (old [?]library note on title and corresponding label at head of backstrip), modern buckram slipcase. FIRST EDITION of this work in which the author establishes the role of atmospheric oxygen in causing the 'diseases' of wine which, along with various other works (cf. PMM 336), led the author to the discovery of bacteria from which he went on to develop the germ theory of disease.
