A matched pair of George III / George IV silver wine coasters, one by Benjamin Smith II and James Smith III, London 1810, the other by James Edington, London 1829, circular form, pierced and chased with trailing grapevines and bunches of grapes, with an egg and dart border, silver bases engraved with an armorial, on wooden bases, diameter 13.2cm, height 7.9cm and 7.4cm. The arms are those of Crofts of Suffolk impaling another, possibly Banaster.
France original typescript entitled ‘France Between the Wars’ by Frederick Carey 106pp 4to bound in green cloth boards apparently unpublished. A first hand account of France immediately after WWI and ending in June 1940 when the author who appears to have been a British wine importer left in the wake of the German invasion. Despite its title this typescript is largely devoted to the run up to WWII and the events in France into the wartime period and as such provide a vivid first hand account of what was taking place up to and during the German invasion as well as the evacuation of the people from France into England
