† A good pair of Chinese archaistic gilt splashed ritual wine vessels, jia 18th century, each with a flared neck and finials rising from the rim, the bodies cast with taotie masks on a scrolling leiwen ground, the neck with lappets containing trigrams, the base with a four character inscription which reads xiang zuo baoyi (to be enjoyed as a treasured ritual vessel) , 30cm. A LARGE AND IMPRESSIVE CARVED, POLYCHROME AND GILT WOOD GOTHIC STYLE RETABLE, 19TH CENTURY, PROBABLY GERMAN. Carved in high relief depicting the high priest Melchizedek bringing bread and wine to Abram depicted as a kneeling knight in armor with his squire holding a shield and lance behind him and in the distance a Gothic style castle on a hill. The gilt background with stylized fleur de lis and the top section framed behind a lattice work of Gothic arches and spires. Overall contained in a large Gothic arch form frame. Height 46.5 inches (118 cm), width 33 inches (83.75 cm), depth 6.7 inches (17 cm).Note: The offered lot illustrates Genesis 14:17-20, which is seen as a prefiguration of the Eucharist.

Inscribed "C. Delacour" and raised on a turned fruitwood socle base. Height of ivory 3 inches (7.8 cm), overall height 4.75 inches (12 cm).

Bottom holds six character blue calligraphy Ming Chenghua reign marks, but made early to mid Qing dynasty period. Measures 1 7/8" height x 2 7/8" diameter (4.7cm x 7.3cm). Total weight of 45 grams.
