An early 19th century George III circa 1820 diamond cut wine glass. The glass with trumpet bowl featuring four cartouches with diamond cut patterns over double-knopped stem, the knops disc shaped. The whole thing over circular foot, no pontil, with cut square linear design to base. Measures approx. 12cm tall.

A hand etched vine leaf wine glass with trumpet bowl; a wine etched glass with trumpet shaped bowl over single knop stem on circular foot. Together with more. Largest measures approx. 14cm tall x 6cm in diameter. Some chips and surface scratches present.

The lot comprising a half sized Bristol blue decanter, worn gilt Brandy label to front & with gilded and cut teardrop stopper, a green finger bowl with smooth pontil base, and a small blue wine or port glass, goblet bowl over disc knopped stem on round foot, smooth pontil. Decanter measures approx. 23.5cm tall.

VICTORIAN HALL BENCH, upholstered in wine coloured velour, with carved wood frame80cm high, 122cm wideLegs and back are sound. No missing trim. She studied art at the Slade under Professor Tonks alongside Gwen and Augustus John. She then set up and ran a small commercial art studio in London. When she married, she moved to Nyasaland (Malawi) with her husband who worked for the Agriculture Department of the Colonial Office. They had a small farm of their own where Metcalfe stayed until moving back to the UK in the early 1960s. Throughout her long life she produced a large and varied body of work, much of it recording the people and landscapes of her beloved African home. She regularly exhibited her work both in Malawi and South Africa.The purpose of this sale of work is to raise money for the charity “Mary’s Meals” so as to provide free lunches for schoolchildren in Malawi.
